  • “The Man” was the greatest

A mixed message this week as the NFL playoffs are down to the Super Bowl, the Fillies and Breds basketball is only a month from the district tournament, wrestling is winding down with the region only three weeks away, bowling regions this weekend and track getting started.  Add the Reds Caravan this Thursday at 12:45-1:45 at Angilo’s and the cheerleaders winning the region competition and we have a full slate of athletics going on in Harrison County.

  • Thorobreds finish in the Top of Standings at North Hardin

The Harrison County wrestling team showed some great improvement last Saturday as they finished fifth of 23 teams in the North Hardin Invitational.
The vast majority of the competing schools, like the host, were 5A teams in football, which indicates a larger enrollment of boys.
Central Hardin won the event out scoring second place Fairdale by nearly 50 points.  North Hardin was third followed by Ohio County and the Thorobreds.

  • Breds rip Bourbon County Friday, win 2 OT match with South Laurel

Two games in two days could not have been more different.
Friday night the Thorobreds traveled to Paris and hammered the Bourbon County Colonels, 83-47, in a game where Harrison County could name the score and actually took it easy on the host team.
All that the Colonels could claim in a positive manner from the game was that Charles Johnson was the game’s leading scorer with 25 points.
After Johnson, the next high man for Bourbon County was sophomore Von Harris with five.

  • Fillies roll past Deming 58-37, fall to Lady Indians Friday

The Harrison County Fillies spotted Deming a few early points before taking control late in the first quarter in route to a 58-37 district win Wednesday in Cynthiana.
The Fillies were ice cold at first as they were only three of 21 in the opening period yet they took a 13-6 lead by quarter’s end.
The 1-16 Lady Devils were only able to manage two field goals in 13 tries as they were finding getting a good shot to be very difficult against the Fillies’ defense.

  • Tobacco meeting planned for Monday

It’s hard to believe that we are beginning to plan for the 2013 crop year. Following a summer of super-hot temperatures and limited rainfall, it sure would be nice to enjoy a seasonable year.
This past season tobacco seems to be a growing interest for several producers in our county. Prices have been good and those producing the crop seem to be very consistent. Because of this we will have a tobacco production meeting on Monday, Jan. 28 at the Harrison County Extension Center. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
