    Traffic Cases
    The following information from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office indicates drivers and/or owners whose vehicles were involved in accidents.
    July 29 – At 5:18 p.m., an injury accident was reported on Oddville Sunrise Road seven miles from town. Dennis Hyatt was traveling on Oddville Sunrise Road when a vehicle came into his lane causing him to run into the ditch-line and strike a tree before coming to a final rest.

    Arrests, citations, warnings
    July 26 -- Joseph A. Pawley, 40, was issued a citation for failure to wear seat belt while traveling South Walnut Street.
    July 26 -- Kenneth A. Stidham, 35, was issued a citation for failure to wear seat belt while traveling South Walnut Street.
    July 27 -- Andrea L. Slade, 40, was arrested on Plum Court for alcohol intoxication, and on East Pleasant Street for prescription of controlled substance not in proper container-first.

  • MCTC/LVC holds first Career Craze event

    Cynthiana students learned a variety of healthcare careers at the Licking Valley Campus Career Craze. There were many hands on activities throughout the week to make this an invaluable learning experience. Career Craze was attended by middle school students in grades 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th.  

  • Kentucky to receive $5 million in support toward implementation of the Common Core

    The Center for College and Career Readiness (CCCR) -which has partnered with the Common Core Institute and Office Depot to supply materials and services related to Common Core State Standards -- has pledged $5 million in support toward implementation of those standards in Kentucky. Support in the form of discounted products and services will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until resources are depleted.

  • Darnell receives National FFA Scholarship

    The National FFA Organization awarded a $1,000 Tractor Supply - Growing Scholars scholarship to Susan Darnell of the Harrison County High School FFA. The scholarship is sponsored by Tractor Supply Company as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. Darnell plans to use the funds to pursue a degree at Eastern Kentucky University.
    This scholarship is one of 1,645 awarded through the National FFA Organization’s scholarship program this year.

  • Bagworms are on the move

    Who among us is guilty of not noticing something until it’s too late? Yes, all of a sudden there is nothing left of your blue spruce or arborvitae. Bagworms have been munching on the needles for weeks and we wonder how it all happened. Well, they are at work right now so go outside and take inventory of your evergreens because that’s what the bagworm likes the most. Now is the time they do their damage unless we put a stop to it.

  • Faulkner-Estes exchange vows

    Dr. Olivia Mae Faulkner and Dr. Ryan Patrick Estes were united in marriage on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at half past six o’clock. Faulkner is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William B. Faulkner of Cynthiana, Ky. Estes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Estes of Henderson, Ky.
    The ceremony took place at Calvary Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky. The Rev. Owen Chandler, friend of the groom, Tucson, Ariz. officiated.
    The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
