  • Breds rout Dixie on the mat

    The Harrison County High School wrestling season got off to a good start last Wednesday with a convincing 51-21 win over host Dixie Heights in a dual match.

    Harrison County got off to a shaky start and trailed 21-0 after losing its first four matches of the meet, but didn’t lose another match on the way to a team victory.

    Harrison County captain Cody Ward righted the ship for Harrison County, pinning his opponent in 1:03 of the first round.

  • Memorial service held for Kayla Poteet at LeBus Field Thursday

    On what would have been her 17th birthday, teammates, classmates, teachers, friends, and family gathered Thursday evening at LeBus soccer field to remember Kayla Poteet.

    A junior at Harrison County High School, Poteet was killed in a car accident Monday, Nov. 24.

    “I’ll never step on this soccer field without thinking of her,” Fillies assistant soccer coach Jeff Kinney said during the memorial service.

    The Fillies varsity and junior varsity soccer teams played a scrimmage on the field before the service, in Kayla’s honor.

  • A Limo Ride and Lunch

    Twenty Northside Elementary students were treated to a limousine ride and lunch at Applebee’s in Georgetown Tuesday morning. The students were rewarded for selling 25 or more items during the school’s Cherrydale Fundraiser.

    ANTIOCH MILLS CHRISTIAN

    The annual Christmas dinner will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, immediately following the second service. Meat and drinks will be provided.Everyone is asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

    The children and adults will present a Christmas musical on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.

    The traditional Christmas Eve service will take place at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24.

  • Ammerman to call state finals tomorrow

    For the second year in a row, and third time since 2000, a local high school football official has been given the honor of calling the last high school football game of the season.

    On Friday afternoon, Joseph Ammerman will be the line judge in the Class AAA State Championship Game between Louisville Central and Breathitt County. That game is set to kickoff at 3 p.m.

  • School cuts may be deep

    A mandatory 4 percent cut in funding for the Harrison County School District, as could be directed from Gov. Steve Beshear as early as Friday, would not cripple finances for the balance of this fiscal year, but it could prove alarming for next year, according to Julie Asher, district financial officer.
