The Harrison County man accused of trying to rob an elderly couple and who was chased from the house by the homeowner wielding a baseball bat, has pleaded guilty.

Robert Linville entered a guilty plea Friday afternoon as part of a plea agreement, said Commonwealth Attorney Doug Wright.

Linville was charged following the July 3 incident at Harold and Dorothy Slade’s Ammerman Pike home with first degree robbery, first degree burglary, convicted felon in possession of a handgun and persistent felony offender.

Boy Scout Troop 60 has been very pleased to receive United Community Funds. The troop has used this money to purchase tents and other camping equipment. It has also helped to provide uniforms for scouts, and fees for summer camp and other events when the parents have not been able to provide. Some of the money this year has been used to build a toilet at the camp by the county farm.

The troop committee supports the United Community Fund and all the good work they are doing.

Operation SEND (Sending, Encouragement to our Nation’s Deployed) community wide event will be held Nov. 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Harrison County fair grounds. Everyone is welcome to come and help pack the donated items.

The event is sponsored by Cornerstone Christian Church and Military Missions. There are already about 100 addresses of folks from the 201st and other units serving from Harrison County.

I spoke with Jo-Ann van den Berg-Ohms from Van Engelen Bulb Company the other day. Her family has been in the Dutch bulb business for five generations so I trust her advice when it comes to bulbs.  She noted that bulbs are best planted once soil temperatures cool to about 55 degrees, so she tells people to wait and plant bulbs until we have had at least two weeks of sweater weather. If it is too cool outside without a jacket then it’s just right for planting bulbs.
