  • Royalty takes to the track

Brian Royalty of Cynthiana simply overpowered the field to win the 30-lap feature for the Bee Creek Recycling Late Model Series at Corbin Speedway on Saturday evening, May 8.

Royalty started on the outside of the front row for the main event, beat polesitter Gregg Carby of Lexington into the first turn at the drop of the green flag and was in control for the rest of the way.

Russell Smith of Williamsburg managed to move past Carby for second place in the third and fourth turns on that first lap, but was unable to closely challenge Royalty.

  • Baseball, Mother’s Day and hot dogs

Mother’s Day Weekend was a mixed bag of feelings for me for some reason, especially this year.

My mother’s birthday was May 7 so that coupled with Mother’s Day itself made it a little more difficult. Yet, with my wonderful wife and two daughters, who are great mothers in their own right, I was blessed and lucky as I could be.

My mother was a great sports fan and was not passive at all about what teams she liked and which ones she didn’t.
