  • Band finishes ninth in semi-finals

    For the first time since 1992, Harrison County’s Marching Thorobred Band was not among the finalists in the running for a state championship.

    HCHS competed at South Oldham High School on Saturday in the 2008 KMEA Class 4A state semi-finals.

    There were 16 competing bands for each class: 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A. Harrison County went on 12th, having earned a top eight seed at last week’s regional quarterfinals.

    Chase Ryan Doming

    Chase Ryan Doming was born on Sept. 25, 2008, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville to Shay and Kelly Doming of Franklin, Tenn. He weighed 7 lbs. 11 3/4 oz., and is welcomed by his sister Sydney.

    Maternal grandparents are Kenneth and Kathleen Rose of Cynthiana, Ky.

    Paternal grandparents are Robert Doming of Ventura, Calif. and Robingale Anderson of Nashville, Tenn.

  • Disabled should get free spaying/neutering for pets

    To the editor:

    It’s been two weeks since my letter went to press regarding our local gas not dropping under $3 a gallon and guess what now its $2.75 here and $2.68 in Georgetown. However with gas going down, groceries are going up. Is there any end to this? It’s all politics and war time. But no one was in favor of war except G.W. Bush and he went after the wrong man and it cost us over 4,000 lives lost and still the culprit roams free.

    Case reports

    Oct. 16 – At 11:30 p.m., police investigated a domestic dispute on Russ Avenue involving a gun.

    Oct. 17 – At 11:41 p.m., Ian Brunker reported that his home was broken into and his Playstation was taken.

    Oct. 10 – At 12:41 a.m., Ian Brunker, Old Lair Road, reported that his home was broken into again. This time, a television was taken.

  • Court to help senior citizens with van purchase

    The Harrison County Fiscal Court voted Tuesday to help the Senior Citizens’ Center in its quest to buy a new van.

    Center director Teresa Gray and Harrison County Commission on Aging representative Tom Kearns came to the court’s special meeting in Berry asking for $5,000 toward the cost.

    “I’ll be right up front with you,” Kearns said. “We need help.”

    He said the center bought a van under a special program in 2005, but it has been plagued with issues since.

    Oct. 16 at 5:29 p.m. -- Non-injury, Ky. 36 West, Shelby R. Cooper, 16, Berry, driving a 1997 Ford Escort.

    Oct. 17 at 2:25 p.m. -- Non-injury, Ky. 36 West, Danielle M. Hurst, 24, Crittenden, Ky., driving a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

    Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. -- Non-injury, Upper Curry Road, Cheryl W. Bills, 47, Cynthiana, driving a 2000 Ford F250.
