    Case reports
    April 16 – At 12:01 a.m., Jessica Long, Mt. Olivet, reported that an individual was  was “jumped and robbed” on Pearl Street. She said she heard the disturbance and hid in the closet. Tommy Hunt and Joshua Stanfield were injured after someone knocked at the door and said they were the police. Hunt told police he would not open the door, but his brother did and two black men wearing bandanas started hitting Stanfield. Hunt called 911. One of the subjects had been wearing brass knuckles.

    Traffic Cases
    The following information from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office indicates drivers and/or owners whose vehicles were involved in accidents.

    April 28 – At 6:43 p.m., a non injury accident was reported on Stringtown Webber Road. Ricky Johnson was traveling on Stringtown Webber Road when he said a tan vehicle caused him to drive off the road resulting in him hitting a tree.

  • Mattox-Fryman to marry June 2

    Cara Mattox and Josh Fryman, both of Georgetown, Ky., announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2012.
    Mattox is the daughter of Lisa and Paul Mattox of Cynthiana. She is a 2005 graduate of Harrison County High School.
    Fryman is the son of Laura Wiloughby of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Mike Fryman of Carlisle, Ky. He is a 2001 graduate of Nicholas County High School.

  • Ferguson honored at HMH Auxiliary luncheon

    The HMH Auxiliary held its annual volunteer luncheon on Wednesday, April 18. The luncheon had 25 members in attendance and featured guest speakers UK HealthCare Stroke Program Coordinator Lisa Bellamy and HMH Emergency Department Manager Karen Mayer. Topics were stroke awareness and the UK and HMH stroke care affiliation.    

  • Alaska June Switzer

    Alaska June Switzer was born to Eli and Susan Switzer on April 10, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz., and is welcomed by her sister, Lexi Grace Switzer and brother, Elijah Daniel Switzer.
    Paternal grandparents are Daniel and Carol Switzer; great-grandparents are George and Joann Switzer.
    Maternal grandparents are Ronnie Arnett and Harold and Randa Arnett.

  • Lucy Lin Brooks

    Lucy Lin Brooks was born to Nathan and Andrea Brooks of Cynthiana on April 27, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Paul and Christie Paynter of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Georgiana McClure and the late Bill McClure and Robert Paynter and the late Bea Paynter.
    Paternal grandparents are James and Ana Mae Brooks of Cynthiana; paternal great-grandparents are James and Jen Brooks, Peggy Perry, and Merrill and Goldie Northcutt.

  • Project Linus leads quilt drive for children of fallen soldiers

    Project Linus is seeking help to honor some special heroes. The local North Central Kentucky Chapter of Project Linus is holding a quilt drive to benefit the TAPS Good Grief Camp for Young Survivors. Part of the 18th annual TAPS National Military Survivor Seminar, the camp is held over Memorial Day weekend in Arlington, Va., and provides a special experience for children who are grieving the loss of a loved one who died while serving in the U.S. military. The camp’s capacity is maxed out again this year, with some 1,600 children registered to attend.

    Births announced this week are: Eli Joseph Hargett, April 12, son of Robert and Teresa Hargett; Audrey Nichole Reed, April 17, daughter of John and Tabatha Reed.
    Matt Stone Kentucky, Inc., which manufactures concrete stepping stones and veneer stone products, will be moving their operations to Cynthiana. Thirty-two acres have been purchased on New Lair Road near Bullard for the new facility. Customers of Matt Stone include Walmart, Home Depot and Lowes.
    J & B Flowers now open. Located on Hwy. 19 just off US 62 East (past Claysville).

    The James and Ora Iews Howard family reunion will be held Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at the Falmouth fairgrounds, Falmouth, Ky., on U.S. 27 north.
