  • Winkle will lead broadcasters in 2015

    Cynthiana broadcaster Chris Winkle, president/CEO of WCYN AM-FM, has been elected chairman-elect of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association for 2014. He will assume the chairman’s role in 2015.  Winkle has served two terms on the board as district 7 radio director and serves on the member services committee. He will be chairman of the organization’s annual conference in 2014 to be held in Lexington.  

  • Opell recognized as Kentucky’s 2013 Psychologist of the Year

    Jefferson County School Psychologist Bethanie Brogli Opell was recognized as the 2013 Kentucky School Psychologist of the year during the recent Kentucky Association for Psychology in the Schools (KAPS) conference.
    Opell received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Kentucky. She went on to further her education by earning her Masters and Ed.S. in School Psychology, also from the University of Kentucky.

  • Caudill donates books to the Licking Valley Campus Appalachian Literature Collection

    In an era when a great deal of published reading material is in an electronic form, the preservation of important printed books and documents  becomes more and more important for the field of research and personal appreciation.
    Cynthiana native, Ann Frye Caudill, worked side by side with her very famous husband, Harry Caudill for all the years he was researching and writing his astonishing series.

  • Whitakers observe 50th wedding anniversary

    On Sept. 27, 1963, Jeff and Barbara Moses Whitaker were married in Lexington, Ky. at Southland Christian Church by the Rev. Wayne Smith. Fifty years later, they have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family at the Castle Post Restaurant in Woodford County.
    They have three children: Susan Dickey of Cynthiana, Kristi Corum of Lexington, Ky., and Jeffry Whitaker of Richmond, Ky.; and eight grandchildren.

  • Woman’s Club of Harrison County holds October meeting

    The Woman’s Club of Harrison County met Friday, Oct. 11 at Hospice of the Bluegrass. Anna Ruth McLoney presided over the meeting and led members in the Pledge of Allegiance.
    Inez Burgin offered the blessing of the food and spiritual values. She read from the book of Psalms, chapter 55. She also read an inspiritional piece entitled The Power of Prayer. Our meal was prepared and served by Layne Tussey, caterer.

    Births announced this week are: Blaine Ogden Biddle, Sept. 28, son of Julie and Jason Biddle; Mallory Lee Ann Creech, Sept. 19, daughter of Allen and Amy Creech; Logan Trent Eversole, Sept. 29, son of Daniel Eversole and Cherity Sayre; Andrew Michael Fryman, Sept. 8, son of Jeremy and Andrea Fryman.
    New walking trail dedicated at the Rev. Ross Park, along with several activities for the youth.
    Indian Creek Christian Church turns 200 years old. Pastor is Bobby Duncan.

    HCHS CLASS OF 1964
    The Harrison County High School Class of 1964 will be having their annual informal reunion at Biancke Station on Saturday, Oct. 19. Dinner (each orders from the menu and picks up his/her own tab) will begin at 5 p.m. and there will be a social time around 6:30 in the same area. Feel free to attend the dinner and/or the social time. We really want to see you at both, but if your schedule won’t allow you to do so, you can choose to attend either the dinner or the social time.
