  • FSA loans available

    USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Executive Director John W. McCauley, announces that funds are now available for Guaranteed Conservation Loans.
    “Guaranteed Conservation Loans are a useful alternative to help operators implement any Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) approved conservation practice including, but not limited to, waste management systems, conservation structures or water conservation measures,” said McCauley.

  • New session begins for LV Singers

    The Licking Valley Singers – Harrison County’s Community Choir is recruiting new members for its Spring 2013 Session. The Licking Valley Singers is an “all comers” non-auditioned community choir open to anyone who loves to sing.
    The LV Singers began in the fall of 2009 under the direction of Karen Bear, a professional singer and choral director. Averaging 45 singers a session, the choir meets Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Licking Valley Campus of the Maysville Community and Technical College in Cynthiana.

  • Composting makes fall clean-up easy, efficient

    Today, most gardeners do understand the process of composting organic matter and the value of adding this material to their gardens.  However, there are still many who don’t do it because they think it is hard to get started.  
    Well, fall garden clean-up, leaf raking and a little kitchen debris may be all you need to get a healthy compost pile started this season.  
    Mother Nature will provide the material if you provide the management.  

  • FSA Acreage Reporting has new deadlines

    USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Kentucky State Executive Director John W. McCauley, reminds producers that crop reporting deadlines for fall barley, fall wheat, other fall-seeded small grains and peaches have changed for the 2013 crop year. The new deadlines are:
    • Dec. 15, 2012 - Fall Barley, Fall Wheat, and all other Fall-Seeded Small Grains; and
    • Jan. 15, 2013 – Peaches.

    Church of the Advent, Episcopal, welcomes its new priest, Father Paul Brannock-Wanter.
    Advent Season is now here and would like to invite all to services on Sunday morning.  Father Paul is leading us in a Sunday School class at 10 a.m. and worship service is at 11 a.m. There will be two Christmas Eve services at 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

  • Player of the Year

    Last Tuesday, Nov. 20, Jacob Markley was recognized by the Mountain Tennis Circuit as 18 and under player of the year and overall winner. The presentation was made in a ceremony in Corbin, Ky. Markley won the title by winning the Pikeville Open, The Garrard County Open and a singles and doubles win in the Kenny Huffman Classic in Pikeville. Wes Barnett was Markley’s partner in the doubles competition. Markley also claimed third place in the Wilson Evans Open held in Berea.

    Signups for youth basketball
    next three Saturdays

    The Cynthiana/Harrison County Recreation Department has announced that sign ups for the 2013 youth basketball league will be held the next three Saturdays. The sign ups will be in the truck bay of the Cynthiana Fire Department at City Hall from 9 a.m. until noon beginning Saturday, Dec. 1, and go through Saturday, Dec. 15.
