A week after their deadlocked vote, commissioners voted Tuesday night to split the position of Cynthiana mayor pro-tem between Commissioner Jack Keith and Commissioner Mark Mattmiller, with Keith assuming mayor pro-tem responsibilities this year, and Mattmiller assuming the position at the beginning of 2010.

Commissioner Amanda Moore explained at the beginning of the meeting that the decision had been reached under the entire commission’s “cooperation and mutual agreement,” saying the decision was in the best interest of the city.

Those who write columns are bound to get people who disagree with them — like “Ole Fred.”

Fred has written me a few times, most recently to take offense at a column about Christians who cuss and how I didn’t want to be one anymore. For the life of me I can’t figure out how he could find fault with that, but he did.

One thing he wrote in his e-mail caught my attention and I’ve thought -- and prayed -- about it all week, in case he’s right and I have this whole grace thing wrong.

2009 New year baby. Dr. Derek Clarke delivered the first baby of the New Year on Jan. 1 at 9:46 p.m. at Harrison Memorial Hospital. Noah Patrick Thomas Ballinger was born to Brad and Kayla Ballinger of Cynthiana. He is welcomed by his sisters, Hopelynn and Alexxi, and brother, Christian. Noah and his parents received many prizes donated by local Harrison County businesses.
