  • Harrison County Band students participate in EKU Clinic

    A concert on Saturday, Feb. 22, was the culminating event for 13 Harrison County Band students who participated in the 25th Annual Eastern Kentucky University Honor Band Clinic.  
    Students were selected for participation in the clinic based, in part, on director nominations.
    The clinic weekend began on Thursday evening with a round of auditions that determined seating for those selected to participate.

  • Academic briefs

    The Western Kentucky University forensics team won the 2014 Kentucky Forensic Association state tournament on Saturday, Feb. 22, keeping alive a 24-year streak that began in 1991.
    WKU was triple-crowned the team individual events sweepstakes state champion, the team debate sweepstakes state champion and the overall team sweepstakes state champion. This year’s tournament, hosted at Gateway Community and Technical College in Florence, featured teams from all across the Commonwealth participating in speech and debate events.

  • Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program deadline near

    The USDA Farm Service Agency’s Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) provides financial assistance similar to crop insurance to eligible producers affected by natural disasters.
    The upcoming deadlines to file an application for natural disaster protection under the NAP are March 1 and March 15.
    The crops for March 1 deadline are: Alfalfa, clover, grass, millet, mixfg, teff.
