  • Golf teams lose at Montgomery Co., boys drop close match at home

    The Fillies and Thorobreds lost matches at Mt Sterling last Wednesday as they faced the Montgomery County Lady Indians and Indians golf teams.  
    The Fillies lost 239-190 to the Lady Indians in the nine-hole match.  
    Sarah Holland shot 53 to lead Harrison County followed by Morgan Nelly and Kenzie Jones who each shot 61.  Sarah Durbin rounded out the team score with a 64.
    Anna Midden (68) and Tori Aubrey (73) competed but were not in the team scoring.  

  • Volleyball Fillies fall to Powell and Campbell County in straight sets

    The Harrison County Volleyball Fillies saw their season mark drop to 8-3 with back-to-back losses to Powell County on Thursday and Campbell County on Tuesday night.
    Powell County (7-1) narrowly defeated the Fillies in each of the three sets winning 18-25, 23-25 and 19-25 in the hard-fought match played in Powell County.  
    “In each set we just couldn’t get a stop when we had to have one,” bemoaned Coach Bill Faulkner. “Powell County has a really nice team, but we were in each set with a chance to win and just didn’t do it.”

    Soccer Fillies win two more, run record to 4-1
    The Harrison County Fillies defeated region rival Montgomery County last Wednesday in Mt. Sterling in a shut out for goal keeper Chelsea Ingram.
    The 0-4 Lady Indians have only scored one goal in four matches and the Fillies’ defense battled to keep the ball out of their goal.
    Amelia Bolin scored both Harrison County goals as she was assisted by Hannah Thomas and Taylor Fry.  Both goals were on cross passes in front of the Montgomery County goal.

  • Campbell-White to marry Saturday

    Savannah Melynn Campbell and John Robert White, both of Cynthiana, will exchange vows on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. at Beaver Baptist Church. Jeff Brunker will be performing the ceremony.
    Makayla Campbell will serve as maid of honor. Bridesmaids will be Kenzie Campbell, Jessica Arnold, Darcy Colwell, and Erin Gaunce.
    Danny White will serve as best man. Ushers will be Robert Pawley, Dillon Price, Lance Colwell, and Daniel Lemons.
    A reception will be held at the Cynthiana Country Club.

    Why  must it fall to strangers to remind us that we have cool stuff at home?
    As I mentioned in my column two weeks ago, my wife and I have hosted high school exchange students for the last five years. It has been a rewarding experience in many ways.
    Aside from the obvious pleasure of extending my familial connections to people across the Atlantic, I suggest that there is an even greater reward that comes from hosting a different student every year: They keep my world from becoming mundane.
    Case in point - The Drive-In Movie theater.

    Mr. And Mrs. Greg Fischer of Cynthiana announce the engagement of their daughter, Anna Ford to Kevin Robert Batchelor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Batchelor of Cincinnati, Ohio.
    Fischer is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University and Batchelor is a graduate of Thomas More College. They are both employed by Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio.
    A late October wedding is planned.
