  • Miss Harrison County Fair 2012

    Michelle Carson earned the Miss Harrison County Fair title last week as was crowned by 2011 Miss Harrison County Fair Ally Barnett. Carson is a student at Northern Kentucky University where she plays fast-pitch softball. She is the daughter of Amy Wiglesworth.

  • Owens-Cumming wed March 17

    Colonel (ret.) and Mrs. Robert Owen announce the marriage of their daughter, Jennifer Chowning Owen, to Alexander Anson Cumming, son of Gregory and Christine Cumming of Fairfax, Va., on March 17, 2012.
    Owen is the granddaughter of Mary Howk Owen of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Cynthiana, Ky., and the late Robert Owen Sr.
    She was attended by Sara Owen Pecorari, Matron of Honor, of L’isle Sur La Sorgue, France, Angie Meehan of Potomac Falls, Va., Amy Hinds of Fairfax, Tracy Simpson of Silver Spring, Md., and Eryn Cumming of Fairfax.

  • Huge crowd expected for Aug. 25 Rod Run

    A small group of car enthusiasts has joined together to take Cynthiana back in time when “greasers” and shiny pink cars were in style.
    Since last year, Jerry Adams and several other local vintage car lovers, or car lovers in general, have been working on Cynthiana’s first-ever Rod Run on Saturday, Aug 25.
    Adams first brought the idea for the event during the time that the city and county were working on their budgets for the 2012-13 fiscal year.

  • McMichael-Ritchie exchange vows

    Terri Brooke McMichael and Christopher Jordan Ritchie, both of Cynthiana, were united in marriage on April 14, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at Connersville Christian Church. Bro. Darrell Goodlett officiated. Music was provided by Terry McMichael and Will Durbin, guitarist, Jordin Vallandingham, soloist, and Stacy Hein, pianist. A reception followed at The Prizing House of Cynthiana.
    The bride is the daughter of Terry and Angie McMichael of Cynthiana. The groom is the son of Chris Ritchie and Kristin Ecklar of Cynthiana.

  • Himes awarded Miss Kentucky’s community service, academic honors

    Katie Himes won the Miss America Community Service Award in the Miss Kentucky pageant Saturday, July 14.
    Though she was not selected as a Miss Kentucky finalist this year, she received $1,000 for her award.
    Himes said the community service award along with the academic award are two of the highest non-finalist awards.
    Himes was one of 31 contestants in the Miss Kentucky pageant, which is a preliminary for the Miss America pageant.

    Aubree Elaine Carter was born to Jarrod and Erika Carter on July 9, 2012 at Central Baptist Hospital.
    She weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz., and is welcomed by her sister, Lauren Taylor Carter.
    Maternal grandmother is Janice Kearns.
    paternal grandparents are Timothy (Rose) Carter and the late Sandra Brooks.

    Adysin Nicole Earlywine was born to Brandi Moore and Corey Earlywine of Cynthiana on July 3, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 7 lbs. 2 oz., and is welcomed by her brother, Lucas Kane Spence-Earlywine.
    Maternal grandparents are Lynis Poe and Brian Moore of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Sue and Erman Kelly, Jody Browning and Jimmy Moore.
    Paternal grandparents are Jeff and Lisa Earlywine of Millersburg, Ky.; paternal great-grandparents are William and Allen Earlywine and Patsy Willcox.

    The annual Earlywine reunion of the descendants of the late Lewis Frank and Sarah Wagoner Earlywine and their children, Richard Earlywine, Dora Earlywine Reeves, Jessie Earlywine, Harley Earlywine, Jimmie Earlywine, Ethel Earlywine Whirles, Roy D. Earlywine and Mandy Earlywine Mynear will be held Sunday, Aug. 12 at Blue Licks State Park in the lower shelter.
