    Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, Jan. 30 in Robynwood Heights at 2 p.m.

  • Complete restoration could take up to two weeks; outages continue to drop

    Because of the severe structural damage to Blue Grass Energy’s system, complete restoration will take five to seven days at the earliest and could possibly extend to two more weeks, according to a press release from Blue Grass Energy Friday afternoon.

     As of noon Friday, the number of members without power had dropped to about 20,000, down from 29,000 yesterday.

     About 300 line technicians and right-of-way personnel are working today, and BGEnergy officials say they expect to continue to make progress in getting power restored.

  • Reds winter caravan stops in Cynthiana

    Cincinnati Reds fans gathered at Angilo’s restaurant Thursday morning to welcome Reds players and administrators. As part of a winter caravan, the Reds stopped throughout West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee. Above, Reds second-baseman Brandon Phillips signed baseballs, t-shirts, and schedules for Cynthiana fans. Along with Phillips were Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman, broadcaster Chris Welsh, 2007 #1 draft pick Devin Mesoraco, Reds Hall of Famer Lee May, VP and Assistant GM Bob Miller, Senior Special Assistant to the General Manager Gene Bennett and Reds mascot Gapper.

  • HOSA officers attend leadership conference in Louisville

    Harrison County HOSA officers attended the KY HOSA Leadership Conference in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 1-3. Officers from across the state met to participate in leadership training, team building and networking activities. Harrison County HOSA officers returned with many new ideas and plans for the upcoming year. Those attending were: Jesse Kendall, Johnna Carey, Stephanie Fryman, Shelby Cooper, Jan Taylor Wilson, Emily Pribble, Ashley Lyons, and Brooke Kendall. The HOSA advisor is Ellie Pribble, RN.

    Case reports

    Jan. 3 – At 7:30 p.m., it was reported that Mike Mitchell had been dragged about 50 feet by a vehicle driven by Holly Harding. Mitchell was treated and released from Harrison Memorial Hospital.

    Jan. 5 – At 6:41 p.m., Christina Rogers of Edwardo’s reported that a man and woman came in and ate from the buffet. When his check was declined, he said he would be back with the cash to make good on the check. At the time of the report he had not returned. However, it was later noted that the check had been paid.

    * Cynthiana Democrat, March 9, 1922 - “Connersville’s New High School Building Goes Up In Smoke - Tuesday night, March 7, the new county high school at Connersville, eight miles from Cynthiana, was completely destroyed by fire including the contents. Construction of the building was completed in 1920 at a cost of $20,000 to the county.”

  • Winter weather leaves many without power

    A state of emergency has been declared in Harrison County by County Judge Executive Alex Barnett.

    Barnett said the declaration, made around noon on Wednesday, was due to the county’s widespread power outages and expected condition of roads.

    “This allows us to call in extra help and freeze state assets to assist those recovering from the storm,” Barnett said Wednesday afternoon.

    A shelter has been opened at Cynthiana Christian Church, with the assistance of the Red Cross and  Salvation Army.
