    A few weeks ago I spent a Sunday afternoon at an outlet center in Orlando.

    I love outlets and malls, even if I’m not interested in buying things (which is a big if since I’m always searching for that shiny, cozy, silky, whatevery thing that will once and for all completely satisfy my soul. But that’s a topic for another day.)

    FRIDAY, Oct. 18

    Blood Drive. Friday, Oct. 18 from 1:30-6:30 p.m. at the Harrison County Extension Office in the multi-purpose room, 668 New Lair Rd. The drive is sponsored by the Harrison County Homemakers in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Donors will receive an acrylic tumbler with a pink straw.

  • ‘Things are here today and gone tomorrow’

    Since 2004, I have had this recurring dream.

    I am in my house and, though it is completely furnished with my belongings, it is still under construction. I can see open places in the ceiling. The roof has only half its shingles in place, the rest is thin tar paper. 

  • Saturday’s fire is total loss

    A house fire report on Millersburg Pike Saturday afternoon got to the Harrison County Fire department too late to save the home from being completely gutted and leaving an elderly couple essentially homeless.

  • Spooky Boo-Wow costume parade is Oct. 26

    This year the Harrison County Humane Society will be sponsoring the 4th annual Spooky Boo-Wow Costume Parade on Saturday, Oct. 26. Registration and presentation to the judges starts at 11 a.m. and the parade will begin at noon. Cost is $5 per dog.

    Prizes awarded after the parade for: Best owner and dog combo costumes; most Spooktacular dog costume; most creative costume; and Best in Show.

  • Sex offender sentenced Tuesday

    The family of a 13-year-old girl who was sexually abused by a Cynthiana man said Tuesday that the five-year prison sentence was “acceptable” but not necessarily adequate.

  • Deputy says injured juveniles ordered to move wrecked car

    A Berry woman is facing several criminal charges stemming from an attempted cover up of a car accident Friday night in which injured juveniles were told to push the vehicle off the road, then all fled the scene leaving a bloody trail behind them.

  • Blessing Ball is Nov. 15 for adults with special needs

    If you want to count blessings, Barbara Yearsley and Debbie Brock would put the Leesburg Christian Church-sponsored Blessing Ball right at the top.

    Friday, Nov. 15, will mark the second year the church has hosted Harrison County’s Blessing Ball for residents with disabilities.
