  • Techau-Jacobson plan May wedding

    Joel and Nancy Techau of Paris, Ky., announce the engagement of their daughter, Shanda Techau to Jason Jacobson, son of Mark and Kim Jacobson of Paris, Ky.

    Techau is a graduate of Bourbon County High School and is attending the University of Louisville. She will graduate this May with a dental hygiene degree, and is a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She is employed by BJ’s Restaurant in Louisville, Ky. 

    Her maternal grandparents are Dorothy Gulley and the late Don Gulley; paternal grandparents are Ken and Joyce Techau and the late Sanna Techau.

    CYNTHIANA POLICE DEPARTMENT

    Feb. 27 -- Misty EcElfresh, 21, was arrested at 104 Millcrest Court, on a warrant for first degree burglary.

    Feb. 27 -- Keith P. Bills, 23, was cited for disregarding traffic control device on Walnut Street.

    Feb. 27 -- Jimmy L. Perry, 25, was arrested on Pleasant Street on a warrant for trafficking marijuana less than eight ounces.

    Feb. 27 -- Michael L. Harris, 19, was arrested on Webster Avenue at the high school and charged with theft by unlawful taking, purse snatching, no force.

  • Nap application closing dates for crops fast approaching

    The deadlines to file an application for natural disaster protection under the Noninsured Assistance Program (NAP) are March 2 and 16.

    The crops for the March 2 deadline are: Alfalfa, clover, grass and mixed grass intended for grazing, hay or seed.

  • Griesser guest speaker for leadership event

    The speaker for this year’s Extension Leadership Event is Gary Griesser, a retired Boone County Superintendent. Griesser has been a motivational speaker for many civic, business and community events even before he became a professional speaker in 1987. He does a very moving patriotic program. If you think that sounds familiar, it should. We had him for the first time at the old Farm Home City program in 1989 and again in 1999.

    Cynthiana Board of Adjustment will meet Thursday, March 12 at 6 p.m. in the Planning Commission Office at the Harrison County Courthouse, South Main Street. The meetings are open to the public. Harrison County Board of Education will not meet this month due to no items on the agenda.

    Berry City Commission will meet Thursday, March 12 at 7 p.m., at Berry City Hall. The meetings are open to the public.

  • Teater named Harrison County Impact winner

    Bonnie Teater of Cynthiana and leader of Harrison County Tomorrow, has been named Harrison County’s 2009 Impact Award recipient.

    The award, presented by the Bluegrass Alliance for Women, recognizes women who have made a strong commitment at the county level to improve the lives of women and girls in central Kentucky.

    The award will be presented March 17 at BAW’s Legacy Luncheon, celebrating Women’s History Month. County Impact Award winners will be recognized and one of the women will be named the Legacy Award winner.

  • KADF workshop scheduled for April 27

    The Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy (GOAP) will hold 11 Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund (KADF) Regional Workshops in April and May across the Commonwealth.

    The GOAP staff will discuss, in detail, any new policy changes as well as changes concerning KADF programs and how they apply to the administrators, extension agents, and county council members. The Regional Workshops are also designed to be an interactive learning session that will help KADF administrators with reporting requirements.

  • Breds season ends in loss to Montgomery

    The Harrison County Thorobreds were unable to hang on to a five-point lead inside the last two minutes, and lost its opening-round game to Montgomery County on Saturday in the 10th Region Tournament at the Bank of Kentucky Center.

    Harrison County survived some early game jitters and managed to work its way to a 51-46 lead with 1:45 left in the game, but saw three straight empty trips seal its doom in a 55-52 loss.

  • Tree topping should be a crime

    There were few things that made my dad cringe more than the practice of topping trees. He would scratch his brow and shake his head at the thought of a homeowner paying to have their trees butchered. It was slightly less offensive if utility companies butchered trees because it could be rationalized:  Downed limbs create a hazard and cause power outages, whichcan cause more than just unhappy customers, as we have seen over the curse of the last six months.
