  • Pinwheel Parade

    Taden Cracraft, Jonah Cockrell and Addlee Miles led the New Beginnings Day Care’s pinwheel parade last Wednesday in front of Harrison County High School. The parade was in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign.

    Case reports
    March 16 --At 12:26 a.m., John Gross, 306 N. Poplar St., reported that three juveniles had thrown eggs at his front storm door. The juveniles were located and taken back to Gross’ residence to clean the egg off the door.

    Traffic Cases
    March 27 -- At 3:44 p.m., a non-injury accident occurred on US 62 W two miles from the city. Rebecca Harris of Duckworth Lane was rear-ended at the roundabout by a truck driven by Kaz McKinney of New Albany, Mo.
    March 30 -- At 3:49 p.m., a non-injury accident occurred on Shadynook Pike three miles from the city limits. Eddie Holmes of Peachtree Drive was traveling west on Shadynook when he eased to the shoulder to make way for traffic coming in the opposite direction. He struck a culvert wall and damaged his car.

  • Thin vs. fat asparagus

    I was catching up on some magazine reading the other day and on two occasions I read the phrase “choose thin spears” and I got so frustrated.  
    These spring articles were about asparagus and I would like to go on the record that when it comes to homegrown asparagus (and even the wild growing in the fence rows) fat is good.
    The fat spears have always been tender from the garden so don’t let anyone fool you on the fresh from the garden variety. They are particularly well-suited for the charcoal grill.

  • LV Singers’ anniversary performances this week

    The Licking Valley Singers will present its spring choral concert this weekend at the Cynthiana Baptist Church.

    This year’s concert will be an anniversary celebration presenting music from performances over the last five years and 10 concerts.

  • Myiah Love Withrow

    Myiah Love Withrow was born to Mariah Smiley and Michael Withrow of Cynthiana on March 26, 2014 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 6 lbs. 10 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Jimmy and Robin Smiley of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Justin and Lois Bell of Cynthiana, and Ana Smiley of Cynthiana and the late Garnett Smiley.

  • Horschler-Nutter plan June wedding

    Kaylynn Rose Marie Horschler of Cynthiana, and Justin Brett Nutter of Opelika, Ala., announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    Horschler is the daughter of William and Kimberly True of Cynthiana, and William and Javiah Horschler.
    Nutter is the son of Paula Nutter of Opelika, and George and Jo Lynn Nutter.
    The wedding will take place June 14, 2014 at 3 p.m. at First Church of God. A reception will follow the ceremony at the Cynthiana Country Club at 5 p.m.
