    Madalynn Kanance Martin was born to Nitosha Pickett and Travis Martin of Cynthiana on Dec. 11, 2008 at Central Baptist Hospital. She weighed 9 lbs. 4.2 oz.

    Maternal grandparents are Pamela Baxter and Darrell Baxter of Cynthiana, and Kevin Pickett of Sadieville, Ky.; maternal great-grandparents are Marcella Scudder and Paul Jones of Corinth, Ky., Mary Jo Pickett of Lexington, Ky., and Gordon Pickett of Corinth; great-great-grandmother is Ruth Rumo of Lima, Ohio.

  • Seven Breds advance to state, competition begins today

    The 2009 State High School Wrestling Championships open today in Frankfort and seven Harrison County Thorobreds will be competing.

    Sophomore Brandon Barnett leads those grapplers as the only Thorobred to come away from last weekend’s Region 7 Tournament as a weight class champion.

    His real name is Mike, and he lives in the woods in a camp with some other people.

    I only met him briefly, which is par for the course for reporters. We get to know people long enough to get what we need for a story, but often not long enough to care.

    I’m talking about myself here, and the truth is I’m not proud of it. But I’m telling you this because God’s been chipping away at my uncaring, although he’s got a long way to go.

  • Breds romp past Frankfort in Homecoming tilt

    The Harrison County Thorobreds played strong defensively and pulled away in the fourth quarter to make for a happy Homecoming night on Tuesday, defeating the visiting Frankfort Panthers, 61-42.

    Harrison County took the lead early and led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but could never quite put the Panthers away. In the second half, Harrison County expanded its lead to 18 points in the third quarter, but allowed the Panthers to pull to within nine.

    Harrison County put the clamps on Frankfort in the fourth quarter, holding them to just eight points.

    The 64th anniversary of Iwo Jima will be held at the VFW Post in Flemingsburg, Ky. on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. Ceremonies honoring PFC Franklin R. Sousley, USMCR (KIA) will be held at the Elizaville Cemetery, Elizaville, Ky. at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

  • Senior Night for Breds this evening on the Hilltop

    Several Harrison County High School seniors will be honored tonight prior to tipoff when Harrison County takes on Montgomery County in boys basketball action.

    Basketball players, cheerleaders and dance team members will all be recognized prior to the game tonight.

    The cheerleaders who will be recognized include Johnna Carey, Bonnie Jo Dailey, Brooke Kendall, Jesse Kendall and Jan Taylor Wilson.

    The Thorobred players that will be playing their last regular season game on the Hilltop include Eric Case, Fonze Custard, Ryan Puckett and John Michael Reitz.

  • Harrison County Tomorrow plans for 2010 World Equestrian Games

    The world is coming to Kentucky to attend the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games from Sept. 25 to Oct. 10, 2010, at the Kentucky Horse Park. Thousands of persons are expected to attend with an estimated economic impact of $150 million. Many visitors and competitors will be arriving early or staying after the Games to experience Kentucky life.

    Harrison County Tomorrow, with the help of several interested residents, has begun the work of coordinating some events and experiences to attract visitors to Harrison County.
