    Cynthiana residents will have a new cable provider. Adelphia cable company buys out Frontiervision.

    The Elks National Foundation of the BPO Elks of the USA will award nearly $2.1 million in college scholarships to a total of 500 high school seniors nationwide through its Most Valuable Student scholarship contest.

  • Cross country runners in two meets last week

    The Harrison County Cross Country teams finished the season with two meets last week. In a meet at Berea College Thursday, Coach Danny Simpson’s squad ran in a comer’s event which had 10 teams pursuing the championship. 

    The Harrison boys finished sixth in one of the better performances of the year. Jacob Marsh led the way with a ninth place finish in a time of 19:51. Nathan Radford, David Roberts and Damon King also finished in the top 40 runners to help the Breds to the sixth place mark.

  • Predictions for winter, does the deer rut count?

    a theory about predicting the severity of winter weather.

    I have a wait-and-see attitude, but for fun, let’s consider some of the natural predictors that may or may not be of sound authority.

    The woolly worm is a favorite and the folklore says that winter will be a long cold one if they are predominately black and they start moving about before the first hard frost. 

    These seem ominous: If there are three severe fogs in June and July it means an early snow; and for every fog in August there will be a corresponding snow in winter.

    Colts lose final on Hilltop Thursday

    The Harrison County freshmen footballers fell to Grant County Thursday evening by the score of 20-6. This was the season final for the Colts, who finished with a 2-5 record.

    Harrison County scored first, but failed on the extra point to lead 6-0. Grant came back with 20 unanswered points to take the victory.

  • Shuttle service for Breds playoff game Nov. 6

    A shuttle service will be available for the Harrison County-West Jessamine varsity football playoff game beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, at the New Harrison County Athletic Complex.

    A shuttle bus will be located at the drive between Ingles Stadium and the Harrison County High School student parking lot. Shuttle service will begin at 6:30 p.m. The shuttle will leave every 15 minutes taking patrons to the Athletic Complex. The final bus run is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
