  • Fire department thanked for rescuing cat from roof

    To the editor,

I want to thank the Cynthiana Fire Department for rescuing my cat off of an apartment roof. She had been up there all night and day. I know I was going to have to get help, it was supposed to rain that night. I called the fire department, 15 minutes later I had my cat. She was important to me.

  • Connersville Christian ladies lend a sewing hand

The ladies of Connersville Christian Church have become dressmakers... and their donations are bringing smiles to the faces of young girls in Haiti.

In December, 140 handmade dresses were sent to the Russell Christian School in Haiti - all products of months of hard work and one idea.

A seamstress for many years, Connersville Christian Church member Judy Millar said one day she decided she wanted to sew for others.

“The Lord popped this idea in my head,” Millar said. “I just started sewing and it grew.”

The first time Harrison County and Montgomery County played this year, both teams were trying to gather some much-needed momentum heading into post-season play.

In their last regular season game, Harrison County dropped that home-court decision to the Indians, 55-45. In that contest, Harrison County fell behind early, made a run in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t seal the deal.

As fate would have it, the same two teams play again, this time in a do-or-die situation in the first round of the 10th Region Tournament this Saturday in northern Kentucky.
