  • Arnold-Hollar plan April 18 wedding

    Harold and Ruth Arnold of Cynthiana, announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Nikki Arnold to Trent Hollar, son of Cooch and Brenda Hollar of Cynthiana.

    The wedding will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Cynthiana Christian Church. A reception will immediately follow at the Cynthiana Elk’s Lodge.

  • Diversion set for child support case worker

    A former Cynthiana Child Support worker has entered guilty pleas to felony theft charges and submitted a motion for pretrial diversion.

    Terri DeZarn, who was charged with three counts of theft by failure to make required disposition of property, $300 or more, appeared in Franklin Circuit Court on Feb. 27 for a plea/diversion agreement.

    An order accepting her motion was filed March 2.

    The charges against DeZarn stem from accusations of theft of money while she was working at the Harrison County Child Support Office.

  • Flu causing absences throughout district

    Harrison County students have already missed 12 days this school year and there may be more.

    At a special school board meeting Tuesday, Superintendent Andy Dotson expressed concern over absences created by the flu.

    “We’re definitely watching it,” Dotson told board members.

    On Tuesday, 289 students were absent from the six public schools.

    “We’ve been hit hard at the high school and middle school,” he said.

  • Strawzell receives medical white coat in February ceremony

    Crista Strawzell received her medical white coat in a ceremony on Feb. 7 at the University of Kentucky. She is a second year Physician Assistant student, and will begin a year of clinical rotations in July. Crista is the daughter of Steve and Rhonda Strawzell, and the granddaughter of Lola Strawzell and Charles and Norma Cooper.

  • One-woman mission sending support to troops

    One Harrison County woman is on a mission - an ‘Our Town Mission.’

    Saturday morning, Jamie McKinley loaded her vehicle with 32 boxes, drove to the post office, and shipped those boxes to men and women serving in the armed forces.

    McKinley’s ‘Our Town Mission’ began last fall, when on a search for a youth group project for Central Christian Church in Cynthiana, she came across the opportunity to send care packages to troops.

  • Lions Club Auction is next week

    The Cynthiana Lions Club is going high-tech for the 52nd airing of its annual Charity Auction, which is next week.

    Initially, the fund raiser was billed as the Lions Club Radio Auction and was broadcast solely on WCYN 1400.

    Eventually the auction moved into the television age and began airing on Cable Channel 6.

  • HCMS sixth-grade band members named as February students of the month

    Pictured above are students from Mrs. Lucky’s sixth grade band who were chosen as students of the week from their section (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, low woodwind, percussion, trumpet, baritone, trombone, french horn and tuba) in February. Students were chosen every week for their  exceptional leadership, work ethic and outstanding dedication.

  • Conservation service accepting applications for EQIP

    The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is accepting applications for Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) at local USDA Service Centers or Conservation District office.

    Land users may apply for EQIP at any time. Applications received by April 15 will be considered for this (federal fiscal year 2009) program year. Applications received after April 15 will be held until the next evaluation period.

    Emerson Claire Probus was born to Todd and Kelly Probus of Versailles, Ky., on Nov. 5, 2008 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She weighed 7 lbs., 11 oz., and is welcomed by her sister, Eva Kate.

    Maternal grandparents are Wayne and Faye Brown of Lexington.

    Paternal grandparents are the Honorable William D. Probus and Ann Probus of Cynthiana.

  • Vocational students place in regional competition

    Thirty students from the Harrison County Area Technology Center attended the Skills USA Regional Competition in Lexington on Friday. Those vocational students receiving first place were Brittane Smith (Desktop Publishing), Kami Wiglesworth (Extemp. Speaking), Daniel Thornton and Ryan Claypool (Mechatronics Team), Kelcee Conlee and Brittane Smith (Promotional Bulletin Board), Luke Perraut (Related Technology Math), and Micah Fryman (Welding Sculpture).
