    Traffic Cases
    Jan. 2 -- At 11:45 a.m. a non-injury accident occurred on KY 36 three miles outside town. Zachary Mastin lost control of his vehicle when he tried to make a sharp turn on a wet roadway. He crashed into a state highway sign and went through a fence.
    Jan. 2 -- At 4 p.m., a non-injury accident occurred on Old Lair Road about four miles outside of town. Zachary Madsen hit an icy spot in the roadway and slid off the road into a fence.

  • Schools delayed for Wednesday

    Harrison County schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday. 

    David Case made the announcement around 7:15 pm Tuesday. 

    He also advised that pre-school will be cancelled for the day. 

  • School cancelled in Harrison County for Tuesday, Jan. 7

    Due to the severely cold temperatures, Harrison County school officials have cancelled classes for Tuesday, Jan. 7.

    Superintendent Andy Dotson said one of the things that has to be considered when temperatures are so frigid is the time children might have to stand in elements at bus stops.

    "We're hoping to get back in by Wednesday," said David Cases, assistant superintendent, noting that temperatures should be closer to normal.

  • No school Monday, Jan. 6

    Assistant superintendent David Case announced at 7:15 pm Sunday that there will be no school in Harrison County on Monday, Jan. 6.

    Forecasters are calling for snow to move in Sunday night followed by arctic temperatures with wind chills that could create life threatening conditions. 

  • Old courthouse open tonight as shelter

    The old courthouse will open Sunday night as an emergency shelter from the weather. 

    Harrison County Judge Executive Alex Barnett issued a Code Red message Sunday afternoon citing extreme weather and predicted cold temperatures as the reason for the shelter opening. 

    If you have contact with someone who has no place to get out of the weather tonight, contact Barnett at 588-5428. Rides will be provided by Barnett, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Harrison County Emergency Management and Harrison County Search and Rescue.

  • No school in Harrison County Friday

    Assistant superintendent of Harrison County schools announced at 8:35 p.m. Thursday that there will be no school Friday, Jan. 3. 

    Temperatures are forecast to go into single digits Friday morning. Additional forecasts are for the arctic air to continue through the weekend with an additional snow threat for Sunday night. 

  • Snow threat extends Christmas break in Harrison County

    There will be no school in Harrison County today, Thursday, Jan. 2.

    Harrison County Assistant Superintendent David Case has just confirmed that classes will be dismissed today.

    Snow is forecast for later today. 

  • Trains vs. truck on Robinson Berry Road

    Things could have turned out entirely different at a secluded railroad crossing on Robinson-Berry Road if not for an attentive engineer.

    Harrison County Sheriff Bruce Hampton said he was called to the area around 8 p.m. Sunday night.
