  • Wedco to host NPHPSP July 14 along with local health systems

    Public health systems partners from Harrison County will gather on July 14 to participate in the National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP). The program includes partners from hospitals, schools, fire and police departments, faith communities, parks and recreation, mental health providers, private physicians, social service agencies, and other interested citizens. Wedco District Health Department will be conducting the program from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Harrison County Health Center, 364 Oddville Ave., Cynthiana.

    Hobbies are defining.
    Hobbies are stress relievers.. when you do them well. If not, you need a hobby away from your hobby.
    Hobbies are necessity.
    A hobby can rule you if you let it or it can be a tool used to get out of the house and off your wife’s last nerve... Why do you think so many men play golf?
    I enjoy hunting, fishing, vollyball and I have recently started lifting weights.
    Bow hunting is the hobby that requires most of my hobby money up until this point.

    CENTRAL CHRISTIAN
    Central Christian Church at Second and Riggs in Belmont, hosted a “late” Father’s Day dinner on June 26. Delaying the dinner to allow families to celebrate at home for Father’s Day allowed more than 50 people to attend the church celebration.
    The public is invited to the next Father’s Day celebration which will begin at 12:15 in June of next year. Make plans to attend now.

  • Winning the conflict, losing the relationship

    I’ve recently discovered the secret to getting rid of internal turmoil and stress – I’ve stopped listening to news talk radio and political talking heads shows on TV.
    Instead, I listen to my iPod – music and podcasts of sermons and science, food and history. It’s amazing how my inner agitation and anxiety have gone way down, and I haven’t missed a thing. I still know what’s going on in the world – I do work for a newspaper – without having to endure all the yelling.

  • Suspect charged with arson

    Police have arrested a suspect in three arson cases following a confession from the man
    Arson investigators were ready to go searching for the suspect believed to be the cause of the June 18 and 19 fires when he came knocking on their door.
    “At approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, our suspect came knocking on the door of the fire house saying that he wanted to confess what he had done,” said Cynthiana Fire Chief Jay Sanders.

  • Track teams hold 2011 post-season awards

    The County Extension Office was the scene Saturday for the annual track awards ceremony hosted by Coaches Danny Simpson and Kurt Burgan.  
    Burgan was standing in for Coach Robert Walker, who was recuperating from a minor surgery.  
    The event began with a potluck luncheon prepared by the families of team members.  
    Following the lunch Simpson and Burgan recognized the teams for the outstanding season, which was just concluded with the state track meet on May 26 at the University of Louisville.
