  • It was time to tweak state’s expensive criminal code

     FRANKFORT -Very few truly transformational reforms ever make it through the legislative process. Our two-chamber system was designed by the framers for just that purpose -- to slow down hasty overhauls and focus on incremental changes -- a tweak here and there to fix the current problems, rather than scrapping entire systems.

    The following information from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office indicates drivers and/or owners whose vehicles were involved in accidents.
    Accident Reports
    Feb. 24 – At 6:55 a.m., a non-injury accident occurred on US 62 W. Virginia Faulkner struck a deer.
    March 1 – At 9:10 a.m., a non-injury accident was reported. Rick Aburto was traveling east on KY 32 West when he collided with McKennzie Wells in a curve.

    Case reports
    Feb. 17 – At 6:36 p.m., an alarm at Eastside Elementary went off while a drill team was inside practicing. The principal set the alarm and when a teacher, who was also inside, stepped into the hallway, the alarm sounded.
    Feb. 17 – At 6:54 p.m., police were called to Wilson Avenue where siblings had been in a fight and one of the juveniles allegedly tried to push another in front of an approaching train.

  • Serrano-Thompson to marry Saturday

    Nancy Iniguez and Fernando Serrano of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., announce the engagement of their daughter, Fernanda Maribel Serrano, to Matthew Lee Thompson, son of Hazel J. Thompson of Cynthiana.
    Serrano is a graduate of Palm Beach Atlantic University receiving a Bachelor of Nursing. She is employed by Yahweh Center Children’s Village.
    Thompson is a graduate of Spencerian College receiving an Associate’s degree in Graphic Design. He is serving in the United State Marine Corp.

  • Jacksons to be honored March 12

    Ward and Janet Jackson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on March 12. They were married March 7, 1961 in Williamstown, Ky.
    They have two daughters, Carla (Dale) Arthur and Michelle (Mark) Pergram, two sons, Jimmy (Lara) Jackson and Steve (Lynette) Jackson, and grandchildren, Jared (Megan) Arthur, Ethan Arthur, Aaron (Heather) Jackson, Rachel Jackson, Tiera Jackson, Cody Jackson, Boston and Dalton Pergram and Chris Wright.

  • Angelucci to be Extension Event speaker

    Karen Angelucci will be the speaker for the 8th annual Extension Leadership Event.  Angelucci says” Growing up in Cynthiana, I knew that gardening was my thing. I have taken it to the extreme at times, and have had many successes and failures in the art of gardening. I created my book, Secrets of a Kentucky Gardener, to help myself and others get a grip on their landscape; so they could reap the rewards as I do.
