  • Cynthiana Police Department

    Case reports
    Oct. 2 -- At 3:55 p.m., Vickie Ritchie reported that someone had been taking money out of her bank account without her permission. She told police that missing from her account was $2,124.50. The accused is a relative of Ritchie’s and an agreement was reached to pay the money back or be charged.
    Oct. 11 -- At 6:55 a.m., police were called to a domestic disturbance on Hinkston Avenue that reportedly originated over a juvenile having to get up and take the trash to the can by the street.

    Traffic Cases
    The following information from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office indicates drivers and/or owners whose vehicles were involved in accidents.
    Nov. 1 -- At 7:33 p.m., a non-injury accident occurred on US 27 less than two-tenths of a mile from town. Gary Simmons struck a deer.
    Nov. 1 -- At 6:30 a.m., a non-injury accident occurred on US 62 two miles outside of town. Billy McCord was in the roundabout when a car entered in front of him without yielding. When he stopped, Timothy Muntz collided with the boat transom.

    Dustin Wade Pergram was born to Carl and Pamela Pergram on Oct. 5, 2013.
    He weighed 9 lbs. 4 oz. and is welcomed by his sister, Athena and brother, Andrew.
    Maternal grandparents are Paul and Kathy Webber.
    Paternal grandparents are Jeff Pergram and the late Wanda Pergram.

  • Woman’s Club of Harrison County holds November meeting

    The Woman’s Club of Harrison County held its monthly meeting on Friday, Nov. 8. Anna Ruth McLoney welcomed members and presided over the meeting. She led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
    Club member Cheryl Case introduced her guest for the luncheon, Brenda Burrier.
    Sonja Frazier offered the blessing of the food and Spiritual Values. She read an inspirational Thanksgiving story from Joy and Laughter by Mary Hollingsworth. Scriptural reading was from the book of Psalms 95:2.

  • Female holly needs male pollinator

    The American holly, Ilex opaca, is celebrated for its berries in shades of red, orange and yellow; it’s glossy green foliage and perfectly pyramidal shape.  
    The deciduous holly (Ilex decidua) and the winterberry (Ilex verticillata) lose their leaves but reveal thick clusters of berries along their stems for dramatic winter effect through much of the winter.

    Though the exact date is still in question, Biancke’s owner Mary Todd Ashbrook is determined to have the south wing of her restaurant back open in time for the holidays. In fact, before Thanksgiving if at all possible, she said.
