    * Cynthiana Democrat, Oct. 1960 - “Who will buy Monticello and why? These are the questions in the minds of many Cynthianians two days before the palatial residence comes under the auctioneer’s hammer Saturday. The sprawling three-story, 27 room Victorian mansion will be sold by Cummins, Renaker, Whalen and Smith realty and auction firm at 10 a.m. on the premises. Monticello, built in 1883, is a Cynthiana landmark and was once a ‘showplace of the Commonwealth’ by the late Dr. Henry Bromley, who with Mrs. Bromley, held it until their deaths.

  • Soccer seasons end for Breds and Fillies

    Neither the Harrison County Fillies nor Thorobreds will advance to the 10th Region Tournament next week, as both were eliminated in the semifinals of the 24th District Tournament at Stonerside Field earlier this week in Paris.

    The Thorobreds were knocked out of the post-season on Monday night as they were defeated by top-seeded Montgomery County 1-0.

    Sept. 27 – At 2:12 p.m., Jason Huff, Sycamore Drive, reported that a bicycle was taken from beside his residence.

    Sept. 29 – At 2:40 p.m., officers were called to Wal-Mart where an individual had allegedly had a prescription for Lortab filled under fraudulent circumstances.

    Sept. 30 – At 5:43 p.m., an anonymous caller advised police of a possible drug deal that was taking place.

    Sept. 23—At 6:13 p.m., Billy G. Combs, Locust Street, had been pulled out of his wheelchair into Locust Street by individuals involved in an on-going fight.

    Sept. 26 – At 10:41 p.m., Cynthia Robinson reported that someone had spray painted her vehicle and the vehicle of Amy Ledford on Newsome Avenue.

    Sept. 27 – At 11:18 a.m., Thomas Hill reported that a man in a black Ford pick-up truck drove off without paying for $47.35 worth of fuel from Ken’s Exxon.
