  • Journey Medical Mission opens May 20

    Harrison County’s free medical clinic will open its doors for the first time Thursday evening, May 20.

    Organized by a group of volunteers, Journey Medical Mission will offer health care needs to patients without insurance.

    Dr. Henry Norfleet will serve as the clinic’s medical director and Jane Whitehead will serve as the clinic coordinator.

    The clinic will see patients by appointment only every Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m.

  • Two injured in Friday wreck on US 27 South

    A Friday night wreck sent two to the hospital.

    According to the Cynthiana Police Department draft report from Ptl. Michael Kiskaden, Kyle D. Caldwell, 18, was turning left onto US 27 from River Road around 10:21 p.m., when his car struck an oncoming truck driven by William E. Earlywine, 21, of Ewing, Ky.

    The report states that Caldwell failed to yield to the right of way when he turned onto the highway.

  • Caldwell County lands former HCHS principal

    Former Harrison County High School principal Jim Schmidt has accepted an assistant principal position at Caldwell County High School.

    “I’m anxious to be there,” Schmidt said during a phone interview Tuesday morning.

    Schmidt said his new position was finalized last Thursday.

    Schmidt served as head principal at CCHS prior to his three years as head principal at HCHS.

  • Pleasant Street bridge closed for repairs

    The Pleasant Street bridge over the South Fork of the Licking River at the intersection of KY 36, KY 356 and KY 3016 will be closed the rest of this week and through July 31. However,  Travis Fryman, state road supervisor for Harrison County, said the bridge will be opened this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and will close again Monday and continue to be closed for the balance of the construction period.


  • Bigger, better is promised for this year’s Art Walk

    The second annual Cynthiana Art Walk begins tomorrow and Arts Council members are encouraging everyone to “Rock the Walk.”

    “It’s the community’s festival...” Art Walk coordinator and Arts Council president Karey Smith said. “We have so much that’s coming to this town, we’re going to burst at the seams.”

    The big difference between last year’s Art Walk and this year’s Art Walk, Smith said, is the size.
