  • Harrison County Girl Scouts

    Harrison County Girl Scout Troops 36, 24, 1576 and a sister troop from Louisville, Ky., enjoyed the weekend at Camp Cardinal Oct. 26-28. The girls earned their Cooking and Ecology badge.     Sarah Renee Barton, center, received the Licking Valley Business and Professional Women’s $300 High School Student Sponsorship for college. Barton will be attending Maysville Community College this fall. She attended a luncheon in her honor and Carla Harney, past president, left, and Mary Ann Lee, president, presented Barton with a check and a certificate on behalf of the LVBPW Organization. Barton was also informed that she is now a member of the LVBPW Organization. The organization will pay for the first year of her State dues.

    The Curry Homemaker Club traveled to Georgetown this past summer for a meal at the Wilshire Restaurant. After the meal, members toured historic Ward Hall, Georgetown.

  • Mary Henson Circle hosts Thanksgiving lunch Nov. 6

    The Mary Henson Circle of Elmarch United Methodist Church hosted a Thanksgiving lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The tables were decorated with fall arrangements and Pauline Copes, president, welcomed everyone and led in prayer. Pastor Jeff Jackson gave the blessing for the meal.
    Nikki Richie and Doris Fryman sang several songs and Diana White played the piano. Joyce Courtney was the guest speaker.
    After lunch the business meeting was called to order by Copes.
    Shut-in for November is Ruth Spires.

  • Local women, business honored at NB&PWW awards dinner

    On Oct. 23, Licking Valley Business & Professional Women’s Organization held their annual National Business & Professional Women’s Week Award dinner to honor various Licking Valley women and a business for the year 2012. The dinner was held at The Vault Restaurant, located in the Cynthiana-Harrison County Chamber of Commerce building, on the corner of Pike and Main Street.

    Traffic Cases
    The following information from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office indicates drivers and/or owners whose vehicles were involved in accidents.
    Nov. 2 – At 5:02 p.m., a non-injury accident was reported on KY 353 seven miles from town. Sean Whitaker was at the intersection of KY 353 and US 62 and was rear-ended by Kenneth Stidham.
    Nov. 4 – At 7:20 p.m., a non-injury accident was reported on US 62 less than three miles from town. Kendrick Wright was traveling on US 62 and a deer jumped into the road causing him to hit it.
