  • A storybook dream come true

    Rose Allen McCauley doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t like to write.
    Oh, there were times when she could only spare enough of her day to “jot down a few things.” However, from editing her high school newspaper in Louisville to her recent success of a published book, the kindergarten-teacher-turned-author is living her dream.
    Rose began writing “seriously” after retirement from her 27-year teaching career in 1998.

    Case reports
    Aug. 28 – At 6:41 p.m., police were dispatched to a reckless driving call on U.S. 27 around Mill Street. The suspected vehicle was located at Rev. Ross Park. According to the report, Diann Hicks became confrontational and was arrested. She was charged with alcohol intoxication, possession of marijuana and harassment, physical contact, no injury.

    The following information from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office indicates drivers and/or owners whose vehicles were involved in accidents.

    Sept 7 – At 12:26 a.m., a non-injury accident was reported on KY 36 West. Phillip Sexton was traveling on KY 36 when he lost control and partially exited the road and went over an embankment and hit several trees and came to a rest in a ditch line.

  • FFA alumni/supports’ cookout Oct. 7

    The annual FFA cookout for alumni and supporters of the organization will be held Friday, Oct. 7 at the school farm on Old Lair Road.
    The evening will start with a meeting at 6 p.m. followed by the meal at 6:30 p.m.

  • NAACP Freedom Fund Gala Oct. 15

    The Cynthiana-Harrison County NAACP will have its seventh annual Freedom Fund Gala on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Westside Elementary cafeteria.
    Donna Slone, assistant professor at Maysville Community and Technical College, Licking Valley Campus, will be the representing co-chair for the event.
    The Cynthiana branch has received much support in the past from numerous businesses throughout the community.
    “We say a big thank you for your support,” said Kenneth Newby, local NAACP member.

  • Free Bluegrass concert at the library Thursday

    The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library will host a free concert of ThunderRidge Bluegrass Band on Thursday, Sept. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
    Members of the band are Harrison County’s Larry Tucker, Terry Power, Herbert Franklin and Rankin Hatfield.
