  • Olin added to Harrison County Sheriff’s staff

    Nathan Olin, 36, said he is happy with his new job as a deputy at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.

    “I was ready to try something different in the field of law enforcement,” Olin said.

    A 1992 Harrison County High School graduate, Olin’s law enforcement career first started in September 1998 when he began as a vehicle enforcement officer for the state of Kentucky, patrolling Harrison County and other neighboring counties.

    But now, he’s staying home.

  • Breds advance in district play 57-51

    The Harrison County Thorobreds avenged a triple overtime defeat in regular season by defeating the Nicholas County Bluejackets 57-51 in first round action in District 38 Tuesday night. 

    Nicholas County had defeated the Thorobreds on Dec. 11, 83-78, in three overtimes which put an extra emphasis on this already do-or-die game. 

    The first period was a Jekyll and Hyde performance by each team as first Harrison County took a 10-2 lead only to have Nicholas County come back to within two at the end of the period, 12-10.

    Feb. 14 at 7:20 p.m. -- non-injury, Ky 392, Dorothy D. Stanley, 41, Cynthiana, driving a 1993 Chevrolet Corsica.

  • Eight cases to be considered by grand jury tomorrow

    The Harrison County grand jury will meet tomorrow to review eight cases.

    Commonwealth Attorney Doug Miller and assistant Commonwealth Attorney Michael Laws will present the cases for consideration of indictment.

  • Barnett brings home Region 7 state championship title

    Harrison County’s Brandon Barnett was the only state champion from Region 7, which is central Kentucky. 

    The Harrison County junior did his imitation of Rocky villain Ivan Drago, encouraged by Coach Mitch Mattox, and went for the blond hair style from the movie.

    Fortunately, he wrestled more like Rocky and brought home the state championship. 

  • Grandview Country Store opens

    On its opening day, Jan. 22, Grandview Country Store served over 30 customers.

    “I think it went very well,” Allen Yoder said.

    Along with his wife Sarah and their eight children, Allen said he was excited to open the bulk food store that sells baking supplies, snacks, candies, spices and deli meat and cheeses.

    “We just wanted to be here and supply the community with what it needs,” Sarah said Tuesday afternoon at the store located on US 27 North. nine miles from Cynthiana.

    Josiah Marshall Custard was born to Sarah Forsythe and Chris Custard of Berry, Ky., on Feb. 14, 2010 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz., and is welcomed by his brother, Landon Desha Thomas Custard.
