  • Three arrested in purse snatching incident

    Three men were arrested in Bourbon County on Thursday following a violent purse snatching in Millersburg.
    According to a press release from the Kentucky State Police, a woman was confronted by two males wearing masks as she got out of her vehicle on Third Street in Millersburg.
    “The female victim was struck in the head with a blunt object and her purse was taken,” stated the press release.

  • Kurz injured following Sunday’s wreck

    A Harrison County teen is in serious condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after a Sunday evening wreck on KY 32 West.
    According to Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve McCauley’s report, Jordon Kurz, 17, was airlifted to UK after he apparently lost control of the 1999 Cadillac Deville he was driving.
    He ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
    The report also states that speed may have been a factor in the accident, which occurred at 9:40 p.m.

  • Thorobred Band heads to Mid-State following state competition

    The Harrison County Marching Band traveled to South Oldham High School last Saturday to compete in the KMEA State 4A class Semifinals.
    Under the direction of Harrison County Band director John Merz, the Marching Thorobreds finished 14th out of 16th bands competing in the semifinals.
    Madisonville-North Hopkins went on to win the class 4A championship followed by Grant County in second, South Oldham in third, and rounding out forth was John Hardin High School.

  • Grand jury returns six indictments in Tuesday’s session

    On Nov. 2, the Harrison County grand jury issued six indictments.
    Elizabeth Bolen, 24, was accused of second degree burglary, when she allegedly entered the home of Mary J. Shelly.
    She was also charged with theft by unlawful taking of more than $500, but less than $10,000, from Shelly.
    Bolen faces a third count for criminal mischief in the third degree. The grand jury alleges that she knowingly destroyed or damaged Shelly’s property.  
    All offenses allegedly occurred on or about Aug. 23. Her bond has been set for $5,000.

  • Beef Cattle annual meeting is Monday

    The Harrison County Beef Cattle Association will hold the 2010 Annual Meeting on Monday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. Dinner will begin the meeting.
    The regular business meeting will be held along with the election of officers and board members. An entertaining program will follow showing the pictures from the Alaskan Tour this summer.
    The admission price to the annual meeting will be a canned good which will be donated to the food pantry. Bring these items so we can help the community during the holiday season.

    This morning I was morally outraged.
    Mad as a wet hen or a hornet — or maybe even a wet hornet.
    I had stopped to get doughnuts to bring in to work and saw a sheriff’s deputy make a right turn out of the drive through and then a left turn onto the street, violating not one, but two posted signs that say clearly “LEFT TURN ONLY” and “RIGHT TURN ONLY.”

    Autumn Afternoon concert Sunday
    The Licking Valley Singers Community Choir will be performing a variety of fun and familiar choral music for their Autumn Afternoon concert at the Cynthiana Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2:30 p.m.
    The LV Singers will also be hosting ‘Formerly Known As’ the terrific A Cappella vocal group from Transylvania University as the special guest performers.
    Tickets are $7 or $5/student - available at LVC, Teaberry’s Gifts, or at the door the day of the performance.
