  • Suspect of knife-point robbery nabbed

    An alert police officer foiled a would-be robber’s get-away Monday.
    Ptl. Michael Kiskaden of the Cynthiana Police Department was leaving the 911 dispatch center at City Hall about 2:30 a.m. when he saw a man running from MSP Apple Mart on Pleasant Street business.
    As he took off running across the parking lot, dispatch advised that MSP had just been robbed at knife point.
    “I just thought it suspicious that someone was running from the store that time of the morning,” said Kiskaden. “It just looked out of place.”

  • Police jail two on car theft charges

    A stolen vehicle was recovered before its owners knew it was gone and one of two suspects captured.
    Cynthiana Ptl. Michael Kiskaden was on routine patrol about 4 a.m., Saturday, May 26, when he saw a car parked behind Custom Cuts on Oddville Avenue.
    “We’ve had a lot of vehicles being gone through and  stolen,” said Kiskaden of recent thefts in the city limits.
    When Kiskaden saw the vehicle parked with its lights on and two people sitting inside, he said he became suspicious.

  • Filling the gaps

    “Voids” are being filled in the approaches to the new bridge spanning CSX Railroad on U.S. 27 North. According to workers, the voids have been caused by the new bridge settling into the permanent position. US 27 shut down to one lane for bridge and embankment work on the Cynthiana Viaduct June 4. The lane closure will be controlled using temporary traffic signals. This work will be ongoing for approximately four weeks.

  • McGuires to be honored on golden anniversary

    Robert F. (Bob) and Gertrude Mynear (Trudy) McGuire will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 16, 2012, in the fellowship hall, the Sidney Haviland Room, of the Cynthiana First United Methodist Church from 2-4:30 p.m.  All friends and family are invited to attend.
    Bob and Trudy were married June 16, 1962, in the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Greeneville, Tenn. The Rev. Dr. Olin Troy and the Rev. John Speer officiated.

    Loghan Lou-Ruth Whitaker was born to Zack Whitaker and Casey Lou Ecklar of Cynthiana, Ky. on May 9, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 lbs. 6 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Gary and Sandy Ecklar of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Bobby and Jean Holland and Rex Ecklar and Carlene Ecklar.
    Paternal grandparents are Darrell and Melody Whitaker of Berry, Ky.; paternal great-grandparents are the late Raymond Whitaker and Ruth Whitaker and James “Shorty” Gaunce and the late Beverly Gaunce.

  • Cole Riley Swearingen

    Cole Riley Swearingen was born to Clint and Rebecca Swearingan of Cynthiana on April 23, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He weighed 9 lbs. 7 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Stanley and Donna Edelman Jr. of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Rita Callery and the late William Callery and the late Stanley and Emma Edelman.
    Paternal grandparents are Jeffrey and Tena Swearingen of Lufkin, Texas; paternal great-grandparents are Bill Swearingen and the late Elenor Swearingen and the late Melvin and Mary Jo Johnson.

  • EZ-Pack to close early ‘13

    New details from EZ-Pack puts a definite time table for the closing of the Cynthiana plant.
    EZ-Pack spokesman Tom Kennedy, said in a telephone interview Tuesday that EZ-Pack will no longer operate as a separate entity.
    “Due to the purchasing of certain areas of EZ-Pack production by Navistar, the plant will continue to operate until the early months of 2013 and then will close,” said Kennedy.
    Kennedy said the production of the integrated garbage truck will be transferred to a plant in Alabama and will be overseen by Navistar.

    Maternal grandparents are Tammy and Wayne Simpson and Brad Morris of Cynthiana, Ky.; maternal great-grandparents are Margie and Randall Vaughn and the late William Debruler of Cynthiana.
    Paternal grandparents are April and Donnie Crump of Cynthiana, Ky.; paternal great-grandparents are Cathy Warmouth and the late Robert Fletcher Jr. and the late Mary and Charles Crump.
