  • Fall Sports Gala at new stadium on Friday night

    The Harrison County Athletic Department has invited the public to attend a fall sports gala at the brand new Harrison County Sports Complex on the Hilltop on Friday night Aug. 28.

    The gates will open at 7:30 p.m. and the public will have about 30 minutes to tour the new facility before formal introductions of all the HCHS fall sports teams begins at about 8. All players and coaches of all the fall sports teams will be publicly recognized during the evening’s program.

    “Just Walk Across The Room,” a new church-wide program, will begin Sunday, Aug. 30. There will be special activities for all ages.

    The weekly Wednesday Night Well began Wednesday, Aug. 26. The meal starts at 6 p.m. and Bible study for all ages starts at 7 p.m.

    Men’s outing to Kincaid Lake State Park for golfing, fishing, cornhole and fellowship, Saturday, Sept 12.

    Teen outing to Lazer Tag in Erlanger on Friday, Sept 18.

    Family outing bowling at Galactic Bowl in Cynthiana on Saturday, Sept 19.

  • Phase I signup deadline is Aug. 31

    The deadline for the Phase I programs that are open is Aug. 31. The programs open are: Hay and Grain Storage and Water Enhancement. Applications must be submitted by Aug. 31. This will be the last signup for the 2009 year. Applications can be picked up at the Harrison County Extension Office.

  • Arts Council and college to host writers’ workshop

    Fifteen noted authors including Kentucky’s Poet Laureate, Gurney Norman will open the two-day Inaugural Writers Workshop with a gala evening Sept. 18 at The Prizing House, compliments of the Becker Law Firm.

  • Courageous Kids offers camp fun for kids with asthma

    For many kids, summer time means summer camps.

    Colin Coy, 12, is no exception.

    Except that he has asthma.

    “I think I found out when I was born,” Coy said about the disease that forces him to carry an inhaler.

    Coy said his asthma isn’t severe, but still required monitoring.

    And at The Center for Courageous Kids, monitoring Coy’s asthma isn’t a problem.

  • Fillies shut out Lady Cats, Breds still searching for 1st win, goal

    The Harrison County Fillies soccer team earned its second win of the year, three decisions, on Monday night as they smashed visiting Pendleton County 5-0.

    The Fillies led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Courtney Grannis and Shelby Clifford then broke the game open in the second half. Kassy Barnett scored to make it 3-0, Grannis scored again to make it 4-0 and then Randi Schweitzer capped the night with her first career varsity goal.

    Tiffany Snider was in goal for the Fillies and registered her second shutout of the season.

  • Sports teams to be featured this week

    This week’s Cynthiana Democrat will feature a salute to each of the Harrison County High School fall sports teams.

    There will be photographs, team rosters and schedules for the 2009 edition of the HCHS Thorobreds football team, which will have its home opener in the new stadium on Friday night.

    Also being recognized are the Breds and Fillies soccer teams, the cross country team, the Breds and Fillies golf teams, the Fillies volleyball team, band and cheerleaders.
