  • Cynthiana dog owners make their mark on show circuit

    Breeder, owner and handler Shoney McNabb said dog showing is only part of building a better breed.
    As co-owner of Derbyrun-Folklore Cavaliers, McNabb’s introduction to dog showing was sparked, like many, by “the biggest stage” in dog showing.
    Watching the Westminster Dog Show in New York City, McNabb found herself in awe of the facial features of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

  • Carson- Knipper plan July wedding

    Jeff and Shirley Carson announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Heather Carson, to Derrick Knipper.
    The couple will be married in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. on July 23. A reception will take place after the couple returns home on Aug. 6 at the Elks Lodge. Invitations will be sent.

  • Women’s Club installs new officers

    The Women’s Club held their May meeting at the Cynthiana Country Club with Virgie Wells leading the pledge to the flag.
    Theresa Martin gave the blessing and spiritual values, ‘Footprints In The Sand’ and the story about the Dollar and the Cents.
    Music was provided by Lottie Barlow.
    Faye Smith presented Bruce Florence a check for $1,000 to be used at Community College by a student.
    Herbert Allen Moore gave the program on ‘More Artistic Beauties.’
    Martin presented the slate of officers, which were accepted.

  • Privett opens Cynthiana office with Swinford & Sims

    Swinford & Sims, P.S.C., has announced that Brian K. Privett has joined the firm “Of Counsel.”
     Privett will be practicing in the areas of family law, wills and estates, business law, and civil litigation. He is available for consultation at the Swinford & Sims, P.S.C. offices located at 132 E. Pike St.
    Privett is an assistant Harrison County Attorney and represents the Cynthiana-Harrison County-Berry Joint Planning and Zoning Commission.

  • HMH Auxiliary holds spring luncheon

    The Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) Auxiliary recently held its spring luncheon for gift shop volunteers and auxiliary members.    
    Since the Auxiliary has been a long time supporter of the HMH Scholarship Program, an informative program highlighting 40 years of this ongoing program was provided by previous scholarship recipients.
    Julia Fulton, scholarship coordinator, introduced Anastasia Rains, a radiology technician, and Eugonda Fryman, a registered nurse, both of whom are employed at HMH.

  • State offices will close Friday for statewide furlough days

    State offices will be closed on Friday, May 27, as part of the state’s budget balancing plan to furlough state government workers a total of six days in 2011, as authorized by the 2010-12 biennial budget passed by the General Assembly.
    The furloughs are estimated to save taxpayers approximately $24 million, as well as prevent laying off more than 400 state employees. The savings generated help close a $131 million gap in the state budget in the fiscal year that ends June 30. State offices will also be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.

    DeLaney Raquel McCanless was born to Angela (Williams) and Charles McCanless on April 10, 2011 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
    She weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz., and is welcomed by her brothers, Trevor and Brody.
    Maternal grandparents are Wilma Barnes and Wilbur Williams of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandmother is Beulah Cain of Cynthiana.
    Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCanless of China Grove, N.C.
