  • Reflecting on a new year in the garden and on the farm

    Hope you don’t mind that I take this opportunity to reflect a little.  
    Another year is gone, I remember my elders marveling over this and how quickly time goes by and I get it now.  
    I have learned some this year, but I don’t necessarily feel smarter; I have aged some, but don’t necessarily feel older; and I have made new friends that have taught me that there is always potential which has made me excited about the rest of my life.

  • Jobless rates down in 114 counties

    Unemployment rates fell in 114 Kentucky counties between November 2010 and November 2011, while six county rates increased, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.
    Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 6.3 percent. It was followed by Ohio County, 6.6 percent; Fayette County, 6.7 percent; Caldwell and Daviess counties, 7 percent each; Oldham and Warren counties, 7.1 percent each; and Calloway, Franklin, Hopkins and Madison counties, 7.2 percent each.

    1. Control access to the alcohol you provide.
    • Avoid serving from common sources such as kegs or punch bowls.
    • Consider hiring a trained professional to serve drinks at your party.
    • Be sure that whoever does pour the drinks is not consuming alcohol and monitors other guests’ consumption.

    Dec. 13 -- At 1:20 p.m., Sherry Jacobs reported that two guitars had been taken from her home without her permission and pawned in Lexington.
    Dec. 15 -- At 8:37 a.m., Tina Nickerson reported that she was receiving harassing phone calls.
    Dec. 16 -- At 2:43 p.m., Elizabeth Nace reported that she has been receiving harassing text messages and that a DVO prohibits any contact with the individual.

    Traffic Cases
    The following information from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office indicates drivers and/or owners whose vehicles were involved in accidents.
    Dec. 15 – At 8:10 p.m., a non-injury accident was reported on Cook Road. Jasmine Willis was traveling on Cook Road and lost control of her vehicle and struck a fence.
    Dec. 17 – At 4:29 p.m., a non-injury accident was reported on KY 32. Dawn Fairchild was attempting to cross the intersection of Ammerman Pike and Ky 32 and ran into the left side of a vehicle driven by Jerry Prows.
