  • Conservation Art and Writing Contest Winners

    Kentucky’s Soil: All Hands In! This was the topic for the 2010-2011 Conservation Writing and Jim Claypool Conservation Art Contest sponsored by the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation and Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts.
    This year every school in the county participated in the contests. There were 283 entries in the writing contest between the middle school and high school, and over 150 entries in the art contest from every elementary school.

    Memorial Day Craft Programs. Thursday May 26 starting at 5:30 p.m. for ages 5 to 11 at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library.
    Diabetes Cooking School. Thursday, May 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the Harrison County Extension Center (eat before or bring a sack meal). Anyone with diabetes or have someone in the family with diabetes, trying to prevent or just want to eat healthier are invited. New recipes, demonstrations and tasting. Call 234-5510 to register.

  • County committee nominations open June 15

    Farmers,  ranchers and other agricultural producers have until Aug. 1 to nominate eligible candidates to serve on local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committees.
    “County committees play a vital role in the administration of federal farm programs and the positive effect they have on rural communities,” said John McCauley, State Executive Director of the USDA’s Farm Service Agency.

  • USDA extends deadlines for 2010 ACRE certification

    Kentucky USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Executive Director SED John McCauley announces that the 2010 Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) production certification deadline has been extended to Sept. 1, 2011.
    Note: The dealine has not been extended for agricultural producers to participate in FSA’s Direct and Counter Cyclical Program or the Average Crop Revenue Election Program during the 2011 crop year. Applications must be submitted by June 1 to be eligible for the 2011 program.
