  • Thorobreds have high hopes as season approaches

    Mike Reitz enters his 39th year of coaching this year with a highly regarded squad of Thorobreds returning to the Hilltop to try for another 10th region title.  
    Only one senior graduated from last year’s 15-16 team, point guard Eric Sanders, which lends much hope for a successful season.  
    The senior class has three veterans though one has not played much.  
    Three-year starter Caleb Ford is an all region player from a year ago leading the Thorobreds in scoring with 16 points per game in 2010-11.  

  • Local students participate in world archery tournament

    Macy Robles and Mackenzie Shepard, Harrison County Middle School, and Justin Barnes and Lauren Shepard, Harrison County High School, had the opportunity to shoot in competition at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) World Archery Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.

  • There should have been a quicker reaction at Penn State

    Last week we all should have been focused on being thankful for the veterans who gave their all and continue to do so for our country.  
    There were many different ceremonies before the college games and professional games that were played this weekend, but none was any better than the one at Williamsburg High School Friday night.
    I was part of the officiating crew for the second round playoff game at the Whitley County school and witnessed this ceremony.

  • Harrison County Girl Scouts benefit from group’s new website

    Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana has launched a major redesign of its website, gskentuckiana.org. The redesign includes a streamlined homepage, plus added features that make it easier for local users to find out about events and troops in the council’s Southern Indiana service area, which includes Harrison County.
