  • Spring weed control starts this week

    I think I have finally figured out the perfect machine for controlling those pesky spring weeds… sheep.  
    Well, I know it is not for everyone (and I know it cannot last much longer for me) but our pregnant herd of Katahdin ewes are let loose from their pasture in the afternoon to graze freely within the secure fencing of the entire property for a few hours.  

  • Young Farmers banquet set for March 20

    Harrison County Young Farmers annual banquet will be held March 20 at 7 p.m. at the Harrison County Extension Office with guest speaker Clay Smittson, a regional land biologist.
    Kentucky Young Farmers State Winter tour was held in Jessamine County this year in February. Many Harrison County members received awards.

  • Schulz to be guest speaker at Extension Leadership Event

    Won’t you join us on Monday, March 19 for the Extension Leadership Event at 6 p.m. at the Harrison County High School cafeteria. The evening will include a free meal at 6:30 p.m., doors will open for registration at 6 p.m.

  • Kentucky counties eligible for FSA Emergency Loans

    Seven Kentucky counties has been declared as disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding that occurred from Feb. 29 through March 3, 2012.

  • Kentucky FSA celebrates National Ag Day

    Kentucky Farm Service Agency State Executive Director John W. McCauley marks the celebration of National Ag Day by recognizing the continuing hard work of Kentucky farmers and ranchers. National Ag Day presents an opportunity each year to highlight the importance of farmers and ranchers in America’s overall economy; acknowledge and promote career opportunities in agricultural industries; and educate the public on how food, fiber and renewable resource products are produced.

  • Doyle attends insurance seminar

    Randy D. Doyle, Cynthiana, a Modern Woodmen of America representative, has completed a five-day educational program at Modern Woodmen’s home office in Rock Island, Ill.
    The program focused on helping families with Modern Woodmen life insurance plans, annuities and fraternal member benefits.
