    Fillies Basketball Camp

    Harrison County Fillies basketball coach Jason Crisp has announced the dates for his first Future Fillies Basketball Camp.

    The camp will be held at the HCHS gymnasium July 20-23 from 9 a.m. until noon each day. The camp is open to all girls entering grades 3-12 for the 2009-10 school year. Cost for the four day camp will be $60 per camper. For more information, or to pre-register, contact Coach Crisp at 859-351-4251.

  • Classes begin for students on Aug. 11

    School begins Tuesday, Aug. 11, for Harrison County students.

    This week’s print edition of The Cynthiana Democrat will include a section detailing school bus routes as well as class assignments for each of the six public schools in Harrison County and St. Edward Catholic School.

    Arrests, warnings, citations

    June 27 -- Earl S.  Wilson Jr., 66, was issued a warning on Oddville Avenue at Rodgers Park for speeding.

    June 27 -- Antonio T. Parra, 28, was arrested at 110 E. Pike St. and charged with fourth degree assault, domestic violence and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

    June 28 -- Brian K. Evans, 36, was arrested on Walnut Street at Adrenalyn Bar and charged with disorderly conduct.

    THURSDAY, July 16

    Harrison County Historical Society will meet Thursday July 16 at 7 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The program will be a Historical Show and Tell. Members are requested to bring in one or more items of interest and a little about the items. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

    Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, July 17 at Grand Haven at 3 p.m.

    Kaylee Rae Lea was born to Keith and Kenna Rae Lea of Cynthiana on Jan. 6, 2009 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She weighed 5 lbs. 3 oz., and is welcomed by her brothers, Whyatt and Weston Lea.

     

    Maternal grandparents are Mark Withrow and Suzie Epperson of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are the late Kenneth and Mary Epperson.

     

    Paternal grandparents are Wendell Lea of Cynthiana and the late Annetta Dennie; paternal great-grandparents are Jr. and Betty Lea, and Jr. and Violet Dennie.

  • Parking on sidewalks is prohibited, says police chief

    As I come to work everyday and as I patrol around town, I see several vehicles parked up on the sidewalk in front of their homes.

    The question that I ask myself is, “Why do people do that and do they realize that parking on sidewalks is prohibited?”

  • A life with security often means a life without God

    A few weeks ago I heard a sermon about wisdom.

    I wisely took notes, then lost them and forgot much of what the pastor said.

    But I do remember one thing. He said God came to King Solomon in a dream and said he could ask for anything and he’d give it to him...

    Solomon acknowledged God’s great kindness to his father, King David, and now to him as king of Israel.
