The First United Methodist Church rings in the new year with pastor Michael Coppersmith.
Coppersmith, a native of Pamona, Calif., recalled his childhood as being somewhat rebellious.
“I guess I was your typical kid,” said Coppersmith. “I had my share of getting into trouble but for the most part I grew up just like everyone else, minus skipping school to go smoke.”
At the age of 16, Coppersmith decided to move out of his parent’s house and joined the army at the age of 17.
