    “Now roll the head...”

    It was Jenny Terhune’s success with Jazzercise that convinced her to buy the Cynthiana chain.

    “I’m a success story,” she said.

    An active member of Jazzercise and Weight Watchers, Terhune lost 45 pounds.

    “The first time I went to Jazzercise, I was hooked,” she said. “It’s fun. The hour flies by and you got a good workout.”

  • Commission proceeds with Westside Redevelopment Project

    Resolutions regarding the Westside Redevelopment Project were passed by commissioners at Tuesday evening’s city commission meeting, allowing progress to be made to the proposed Mill Street makeover.

    Bryan Kirby, owner of CEDA-WJL Associates, updated commissioners on the progress of the project, which has been on the city’s agenda for several years.

    “This is a true redevelopment of this particular piece of the westside neighborhood,” said Kirby.

  • 302 BGE customers still in the dark

    According to the latest figures from Blue Grass Energy,  302 Harrison County customers remain without power.

    The figures are as of 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5.

    “We are on track to have restoration complete by this weekend,” said Cathryn Gibson, vice president of member services. 

     As of 10 a.m. today, about 660 members remain without power, she said.

  • One-hour delay on Friday

    Harrison County Schools will be operating on a one-hour delay on Friday, Feb. 6.

    According to Assistant Superintendent Dee Gee Fischer, the delay will allow students to board buses in daylight.

  • Work continues on Switzer tower

    The City of Cynthiana is continuing to treat and pump water to its customers. One such customer is the Harrison County Water Association.

    Danny Northcutt, HCWA manager, said a vicious rumor has been circulating stating that the county is about to run out of water.

    "That's simply not true," Northcutt said.

    He said that the Switzer tank, which is located on Connersville Pike had a downed line. However, he said Blue Grass Energy crews were working there now expecting that power to be returned soon.

  • Road crew ready for bad weather

    With snow, ice and sleet predicted throughout the week, the Harrison County Road Department is gearing up for one long work week.

    “Today we’re working to gear up for tonight,” road department supervisor James McCarty said Monday afternoon.

    McCarty said road department workers were out treating county roads from 6 p.m. Sunday evening until 1 a.m. Monday morning.

    “When it gets to two inches, we come in,” said McCarty. “It doesn’t do us any good to put ‘em down before that.”

    ASHBROOK

    Campbellsville University Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Frank Cheatham has announced the academic honors’ list for the fall 2008 semester.

    Joshua T. Ashbrook, a freshman from Cynthiana, Ky., has been named to Campbellsville University’s President’s List for fall 2008.

    EKU GRADUATES

    Eastern Kentucky University recognized 878 graduates at the conclusion of the Fall 2008 semester.

    The graduates were honored at commencement ceremonies Dec. 20.

  • Complete restoration could take up to two weeks; outages continue to drop

    Because of the severe structural damage to Blue Grass Energy’s system, complete restoration will take five to seven days at the earliest and could possibly extend to two more weeks, according to a press release from Blue Grass Energy Friday afternoon.

     As of noon Friday, the number of members without power had dropped to about 20,000, down from 29,000 yesterday.

     About 300 line technicians and right-of-way personnel are working today, and BGEnergy officials say they expect to continue to make progress in getting power restored.

  • HOSA officers attend leadership conference in Louisville

    Harrison County HOSA officers attended the KY HOSA Leadership Conference in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 1-3. Officers from across the state met to participate in leadership training, team building and networking activities. Harrison County HOSA officers returned with many new ideas and plans for the upcoming year. Those attending were: Jesse Kendall, Johnna Carey, Stephanie Fryman, Shelby Cooper, Jan Taylor Wilson, Emily Pribble, Ashley Lyons, and Brooke Kendall. The HOSA advisor is Ellie Pribble, RN.

  • Winter weather leaves many without power

    A state of emergency has been declared in Harrison County by County Judge Executive Alex Barnett.

    Barnett said the declaration, made around noon on Wednesday, was due to the county’s widespread power outages and expected condition of roads.

    “This allows us to call in extra help and freeze state assets to assist those recovering from the storm,” Barnett said Wednesday afternoon.

    A shelter has been opened at Cynthiana Christian Church, with the assistance of the Red Cross and  Salvation Army.
