  • Toyota donation helps fuel learning at Harrison Area Technology Center

    Thanks to the generous donation of eight Camry engines by Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown, students at the Harrison ATC will be able learn valuable engine repair skills.
    Students will disassemble and reassemble these engines while learning important internal engine components.
    Automotive Technology Instructor Shannon Morrison feels that this is a wonderful opportunity for his students.

  • LVC/MCTC hosts poetry reading event

    The Licking Valley Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College hosted a poetry reading featuring two poets Dr. Lynn Shaffer and George Ella Lyon on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Licking Valley Campus library.  
    Dr. Lynn Shaffer began the event by reading poetry from her book, Persistence of Vision.  
    She read short poems such as “The Oldest Daughter Remembers,” “Love Story,” and “Why Don’t You Talk About the War.”  

  • Thirty children attend Unite to Read event

    “Unite to Read” is a statewide literacy project designed by members of the Kentucky Career and Technical Student Organizations. The campaign focused on literacy awareness in all grades as well as in the community. The local chapters of the Book Club, FBLA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Friends of Rachel, and Skills USA, from Harrison County Area Technology Center and Harrison County High School, participated in the statewide project on Nov. 6.

  • Academic briefs

    Jackson Sanders, a Western Kentucky University freshman from Cynthiana, earned a third in impromptu speaking and fifth in dramatic interpretation at the Belmont University tournament; semifinalist in impromptu speaking at the Carson-Newman University, Tennessee Porch Swing tournament on Nov. 16.17.

  • Spring registration begins and upcoming community events at LVC

    The Fall 2013 semester is well under way on the Hilltop. Finals week will be here before long, and spring registration has begun.
    This would be a great time to start a New Year’s resolution and make a move to earn a college degree. By taking classes in the spring students can exchange a resolution with action.
    Some upcoming community events at the Licking Valley Campus are:  
    •Lynn Shaffer and George Ella Lyon Poetry Reading, LVC Library 11 a.m. or 5:30 p.m., Tuesday Nov. 19. Everyone is welcome.
