    Susan Darnell of Cynthiana was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Darnell was initiated at Eastern Kentucky University.

  • Pendleton Co. High to present musical drama ‘Dead Serious...About Life’

    On Saturday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 22, a musical drama performance of “Dead Serious ... About Life” will be presented at Pendleton County High School in Falmouth. The performance on Saturday begins at 6 p.m. and the Sunday performance begins at 3 p.m. The musical will be performed by a group called Mishpachah, Inc., which is based out of Mason, Ohio.
    •Every 4 seconds, a teenager will attempt suicide;
    •Approximately 11 young people between the ages of 15-24 die every day by suicide;

  • Harrison County AFJROTC earns ‘Exceeds Standards’ rating during evaluation

    The Air Force Junior ROTC instructors and cadets of the Kentucky 51st AFJROTC Group at Harrison County High School recently earned an overall unit assessment score of “Exceeds Standards”…the highest attainable rating during their rated unit evaluation on Oct. 23.
    Major (Ret) Jon Montgomery and Chief Master Sergeant (Ret) Bill Blackburn created a dynamic and supportive learning environment coupled with excellent community outreach. The instructors were providing outstanding leadership in administering the cadet centered citizenship program.

  • HCHS completes Teen Court program

    Fifty Harrison County students who have completed Teen Court training were sworn in as officers of their county court Thursday, Oct. 29. District Court Judge Bill Kuster, who serves Harrison, Pendleton, Nicholas, and Robertson counties and oversees the local Teen Court program, performed the ceremony at the Harrison County Judicial Center.
    Teen Court members performed two mock trials for the audience, and 18th Circuit Commonwealth’s Attorney Doug Miller served as keynote speaker for the event.

    In a country that so often dismisses the political will and collective voices of the younger generation, Harrison County High School is taking action.
    In conjunction with the statewide general election, HCHS is spearheading a campaign to encourage students to become involved in politics and public service taking place within our community.
