    Lesley Ann Hatfield, Valedictorian of the 2011 graduating class at Lee High School, is the daughter of Myron and Joyce Hatfield of Pennington Gap, Va., formerly of Cynthiana.
    Her school activities included JV basketball, JV softball, varsity softball, and Color Guard, and the Lee High Generals Marching Band. She was a member in Spanish Club, Science Club, Senior Beta Club, Co-ed Hi Y, DECA and FBLA.
    Hatfield has been recognized as a National Honor student. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has been a Girl Scouts of America member for 13 years.

  • School/district improvement system will be available online

    The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has contracted with AdvancED®, parent company of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), to provide a Web-based school and district improvement planning framework and management system beginning in the 2012-13 school year.
    AdvancED’s Adaptive System of School Improvement Support Tools, or ASSIST™, can be used for the required Comprehensive School and District Improvement Planning (CSIP/CDIP) process that has been mandated for nearly 20 years.

    Eastern Kentucky University recognized 1,493 graduates at the conclusion of the Spring 2011 semester.
    The graduates were honored at commencement ceremonies May 7.
    Harrison County graduates include:  Mary Nicole Jones, James P. Allen, Angela Michelle Cracraft, Derek Cleveland Florence, Jill Cameran Jones, William Isaac Lyons, Cara Beth Mattox, Lana Frances Snapp, Joshua P. Taylor, Julie K. Whalen, Sara Frances Young.

    Megan Russell Gray graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy on May 6, 2011 with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She received a Merck award for outstanding graduating students in pharmacy studies and was recognized for maintaining a perfect 4.0  GPA as a student in the College of Pharmacy.
    She was a member of Rho Chi - Pharmacy Academic Honor Society, an Alumni Association Scholar, KAPS member, as well as a volunteer at Faith Pharmacy and the Salvation Army Clinic.

  • Scholarship and photo shoot

    Juniors at Kentucky’s public and private high schools may enter to win a $500 scholarship and a photo shoot at his or her school through the “Promote Your School” scholarship contest, sponsored by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).
