    Courtney Purcell, daughter of Bud and Patty Purcell, graduated from Asbury University with honors on My 7. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
    She will be teaching third grade at Deep Springs Elementary in Lexington in the fall.

    Luke Arthur, Kaitlin Himes and Margaret McCauley of Harrison County High School are the 2011 recipients of college scholarships from Farm Bureau.

    Philip Morris International Management SA (PMIM SA), a subsidiary of Philip Morris International Inc., is awarding an educational scholarship to Rachel Barnes of Berry. Barnes will attend Maysville Community and Technical College this fall and plans to study nursing. She is the daughter of Jeff and Connie Barnes of Berry.

    Katie LaCore Fryman, daughter of Suzanne LaCore of Georgetown and Rick Fryman of Cynthiana, was awarded a degree from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing during a pinning ceremony on May 6. Fryman graduated magna cum laude.
    The UK College of Nursing offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, as well as two doctoral programs, the Doctor of Nursing Practice and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing.

    Bluegrass Community & Technical College recognizes the following students from Harrison County who have achieved Dean’s List honors for the 2011 Spring semester.  The college recognizes academic excellence by naming to the Dean’s List full-time students who have earned an overall semester grade point average of 3.5.

    Dr. Joshua Thomas Grinstead graduated with honors from UK College of Pharmacy on May 6.

    He has accepted a position with Walmart in Maysville, Ky.
    Grinstead is the son of Dr. David and Cathy Grinstead and the grandson of Maurice and Wanda West and Malcolm and Jane Grinstead.

    Four area high school graduates and Transylvania University students have been named to the Dean’s List for the 2011 winter term.
    To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average during the term.

    Senior Anna Lewis, an educational studies and Spanish language and literature double major, is the daughter of Dwight and Frances Lewis of Cynthiana.
    Senior Nadia Smith, a computer science major and Spanish minor, is the daughter of Davis and Rita Smith of Cynthiana.

    Eric Semijalac, son of Alex and Gail Semijalac, graduated from Full  Sail University on April 22, 2011. Semijalac studied film, receiving a bachelor’s  degree from the school, located in Orlando, Fla. He was the class salutatorian, graduating with a 3.94 GPA, and also received a Course Director Award in digital cinematography. He graduated from Harrison County High  School in 2008. He is currently living in Orlando, with plans of moving to Los Angeles in the near future.
