  • Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative announces 2015 Scholarship

    The Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association (BTGCA) announces that the 2015 BTGCA Scholarship applications are now being accepted.
    The Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative will award ten $2,000 scholarships to students for the 2015-2016 school years. It is a great way for our organization to help our farm families as they work to provide educational opportunities to their children.

    Sam Arnold, a trustee of the Agnes McDowell Trust Farm, presents FFA leader and high school Ag teacher Rebecca Russell a check for $25,000 from the trust to support educational programs at the high school. Russell said that the money would be used to purchase a tractor and a mower for the school farm.

  • Submissions needed for spring edition of the literary magazine

    The Licking River Writers in collaboration with Licking Valley Campus sends out a call for submissions for the spring edition of the literary magazine, Life’s Vivid Creations.
    This volume will be published with the theme: My Hometown.
    Not all entries have to be directly connected to the theme, but the editors hope many submissions will be in some way connected to hometown memories, the present and/or the future.
    Submissions can begin immediately and the opportunity will be open until the deadline, March 30. There is no fee for submission.

    BESSON
    Abby Besson, a junior communication major from Cynthiana, has been named to the President’s List at Freed-Hardeman University for the fall 2014 semester. To be named to the President’s list, a student must earn a grade point average of 4.0 while taking at least 12 credit hours.
    Freed-Hardeman University is a private, four-year university located in Henderson, Tenn.
