  • Harrison County Area Technology Center students honored at Stock Market Game awards banquet

    Harrison County Area Technology  students and their teacher, Sean Murphy, were honored on Friday, April 27, in Louisville at the Pendennis Club for placing first in State in the Stock Market Game competition. The Kentucky Council on Economic Education Stock Market Game awards banquet was hosted by Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis-Louisville Branch.

    Gerry L. Whalen of Cynthiana, Ky. graduated with a master of business administration from Campbellsville University.
    Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook, United States ambassador at large for international religious freedom, addressed the 248 undergraduate students in Saturday’s ceremony at Powell Athletic Center.

    Tazz Fulton of Sadieville recently was awarded Trine University’s Distinguished Scholarship.
    The Distinguished Scholarship is awarded to students who show academic excellence and leadership both in and out of the classroom. This scholarship is valued at $12,500 annually.
    Fulton is a senior at Harrison County High School.

    Allison McVey, a 2008 graduate of Harrison County High School, graduated from the University of Kentucky on Sunday, May 6, 2012 with a B.A. in International Studies and History, Summa Cum Laude and with Honors.
    McVey received Departmental Honors in History and Departmental Honors in International Studies.
    She is the daughter of Randy and Carol McVey, and will be moving to Nashville, Tenn. for two years with Teach for America.

  • Salato Wildlife Center unveils new Bluegrass Prairie exhibit

    The Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort held the grand opening of its interactive Bluegrass Prairie Exhibit on May 2.
    Visitors enjoyed a hands-on learning experience about the efforts of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to restore and manage prairie habitats and the animals that call them home.
    Families and kids can learn how prairie habitats help wildlife survive by imaging they are a quail chick as they make their way through the exhibit.

  • HCMS students participate in United Nations Conference

    On March 11-13, 31 students from Harrison County Middle School traveled to Louisville, Ky. to participate in a three day mock United Nations conference. Kentucky’s conference is hosted by the YMCA each year. This program is designed to help students develop valuable leadership skills, diplomacy, and to better understand the world around them. The program can have a powerful impact on students, allowing them to empathize with people around the world and in our own country.
