  • Robertson County first grader shares idea for energy creation, family wins $1,500 for college

    The family of a Robertson County first-grader has won a $1,500 college savings account after their son shared his idea for creating energy. Henry Haag submitted an essay for the “Dream Out Loud Challenge” offering how he would change the world after college by creating energy with a tree branch, a cable and a drive belt. The Dream Out Loud Challenge was sponsored by the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust (KESPT), Kentucky’s official 529 college savings plan.

  • Northside drama club going strong after four years

    A simple observation trip several years ago has turned into an annual event at Northside Elementary School.
    Kindergarten teacher Leslie Jones got the idea of a drama club after observing a play at another school.
    “I thought we could do it here,” she said. “So I volunteered with some fellow teachers to help do this.”

  • Academic briefs

    David Scott has been named the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) outreach counselor for Harrison County.
    “I am honored and excited to continue the efforts of KHEAA and its partners in promoting higher education in Harrison County,” he said.

  • HCHS band members participate in EKU Clinic

    The late February snow forced the annual Eastern Kentucky University Band Clinic to be rescheduled to the first weekend in May.  
    The spring weather allowed the 16 participating Harrison County High School band students to truly experience the “Campus Beautiful,” but the real beauty was in the music shared.  
    Band members Katie Smith, Draven Florence, Christopher Young, Cameron Blankenship, and Jason Dye were selected to perform with the “Maroon” Honor Band, which was conducted by HCHS Alumnus Charles M. Smith.
