    BARNETT
    Kassandra Barnett of Berea received a bachelor’s degree with a major in Education Studies during the Mid-Year Recognition Service on Sunday, Dec. 13 from Berea College.
    Barnett plans on spending time with her three children before continuing with her studies at Grad School.

    Gregory Dick and Will Hicks, both of Cynthiana, have been accepted to the University of the Cumberlands for the upcoming academic year.

  • HCHS speech team takes Small Team State Championship at the KESDA competition

    Harrison County High School Speech Team took home the Small Team State Championship last weekend at the Kentucky Education Speech and Drama Association (KESDA) held in Lexington.
    Harrison County had four team members to compete at state: Jacob Sanders, Marie Bowen, Jesse Klapheke and Jared Thomas.  
    The team also placed fifth in the state in overall team points and took home four individual state championships and several top six and top 18 awards.

  • HCHS band members participate in festival

    Members of the Harrison County High School Band travelled to Morehead last weekend to participate in the Kentucky Music Educators Association Solos and Ensembles Festival.  
    Almost 60 band students participated in 50 adjudicated events.  
    All of those who participated by performing solos or in small ensembles such as trios, duets and quartets were adjudicated by respected music educators from across the state.  
    All participants were rated as proficient or distinguished in their performances.

    SLUCHER
    Nickolas R. Slucher was named to the Dean’s List at Georgetown College for the Fall semester of 2015.
    The Deans’ List at Georgetown College is composed of students who have earned a term grade point average of 3.7 or above in at least 12 graded credit hours.

  • HCHS band members participate in EKU Clinic

    The annual Eastern Kentucky University Honor Band clinic was held on the Richmond campus last weekend.  
    Fifteen members of the Harrison County High School Band were selected to participate. While participants are initially selected via a nomination process, the clinic begins with an audition to determine placement within one of three bands.  
    The two clinic bands were conducted by Lydsay Boysen and Dr. John Pasquale.

  • Southside Elementary to host District Governor’s Cup competition Feb. 27

    A Harrison County school will host the 75th District Governor’s Cup Competition next week.
    Southside Elementary School will host the event, an academic event sponsored by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition, on Feb. 27.
    Harrison County’s four elementary schools will face each other in the competition.
    Governor’s Cup features eight events, including Quick Recall, which is the only one open to the public. Quick Recall begins at 11:30 a.m.
