  • Local actors featured in Georgetown College Maskrafters Theatre production

    Cynthiana’s own Harry Smith has the leading role of John Dodge with Ross Smith featured in the ensemble cast when the Georgetown College Maskrafters, Kentucky’s oldest collegiate theatre group, present the drama, Middletown, this weekend, April 15-17. Friday and Saturday performances in the Ruth Pearce Wilson Lab Theatre are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m.

  • Knapp is essay contest winner

    Jonathan Knapp, Westside Elementary, has been selected as the winner of the Harrison County “2015-2016 Grandparent of the Year” essay contest sponsored by AARP Kentucky and the Kentucky Retired Teachers’ Association (KRTA). Jonathan is the son of Dwana Tolbert Dye and Eric Knapp.

  • Financial aid tip for students; compare award letters to find best college deal

    By now, most high school seniors headed for college will be receiving financial aid award letters. Seniors and their parents should read those letters carefully, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) advises.
    The letter will usually show  the total cost of attendance - what that school costs for one year, including tuition, fees, room, meals, books, supplies, transportation and personal expenses.

  • Klapheke one of four in U.S. selected for newspaper internship program

    An Eastern Kentucky University junior is one of four students in the U.S. selected for the first summer internship program offered through the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors.
    Daniel Klapheke will intern at the Illinois Valley News in Cave Junction, Oregon. Klapheke, from Cynthiana, is managing editor of The Eastern Progress student newspaper and has also interned at The Falmouth Outlook in northern Kentucky. He is a journalism and broadcast/electronic media double major and honors student. He plans to graduate in May 2017.
